Today in Westminster (politics)
The government are trying to see if they can get a meaningful vote through on the proposed amended proposal to leave the EU
Bercow is expected to give the House a heads up on whether it's going to worth them even trying.
He's already pointed out that he's ruled on this before.

Re: Today in Westminster (politics)
No surprise. There's strict rules about trying to get the same thing through parliament.
Political Jounos reckon Johnson has the numbers to get this proposal through tomorrow.

Re: Today in Westminster (politics)
They're dealing with the WAB.
So far the government have been questioned about why it barely mentions the Good Friday Agreement and why there are loopholes in it around workers rights. The proposed bill will allow workers rights to be lowered below EU standards. Johnson is using the ECJ to support his point that we can do better than the EU rules on workers rights. Please remember that EU laws and regulations set the bare minimum. There's nothing to prevent us doing better (as we frequently do - for instance on health and safety).

Re: Today in Westminster (politics)
Sorry I do agree we do go beyond in our regs and laws but health and safety is not one of them! Go down to a scrap yard and talk to the blokes there. They get forced to wear a hard hat where they stack up cars
Bloke upstairs works at a big one down the road and he said what's a hard hat going to do, a car falls I'll get squashed

Lost again. It's time for Johnson to go. He doesn't represent Parliament.
Has he won a vote yet? The man is a loser.

He's very probably in contempt of parliament, and where is the media?duke63 wrote:He doesn't represent Parliament.
Great this sovereignty, isn't it?

It is. You guys are so lucky to have a sovereign, a monarchy, etc., and all that goes with it.
I knew you'd come around eventually.

I'm confused....
I thought that Boris's deal won "overwhelming support" from MP's who obviously chose to put their personal ambitions ahead of the best interest of the electorate.?
I "went off-line" at that point, and had a few liquid mood adaptors.
Bottle's empty now, so perhaps my (often fairly limited) comprehension has been impaired.??????????????????????

Re: Today in Westminster (politics)
The bill was passed but not the timescale. Rumours Johnson now threatening to withdraw the withdrawal bill.

Re: Today in Westminster (politics)
Some people are saying that its possible to change the withdrawal bill as it passes through Parliament which is why Johnson wanted it rushed through, to prevent this. Now that would be hilarious if they changed it to suit the will of Parliament rather than the will of the ERG.
