I just looked it up & it appears that the passports were designed in France and are made in Poland, is this correct??

Yep. And we had to close the UK company who had been making them.

Imo ^ that in itself perfectly symbolises the whole Brexit scenario.

There's a bit more to it than just the issue of printing passports though. The company that printed them, De La Rue, has been under investigation for fraud, it's owed a ton (or tonne) of money by other banks, and half it's board of directors jumped ship as a result. Passports, blue or otherwise, seem to be the least of their worries.

De La Rue were investigated. The SFO found nothing. The investigation was limited to it's currency design and making business with South Sudan in 2011.

Nothing to do with passports.

Nothing to do with them not being given the contract to make the new UK passports. Once the government decided not to award them the contract De La Rue shut down the passport business section of their operation, at the loss of about 200 jobs.

The investigation started after the government decided to use another company to make the new passports.

But you know, why let the truth get in the way of a good story ;)

Most sensible post you've made in this thread. The government don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Brexit. Make Britain great again. £350m/week for the NHS, reduced immigration to provide more jobs for British youth, borderless and frictionless trade with the EU, no tarrifs.

Yeah, great story...

Will be worth it though if we get Blue Passports.

You've got to see the big picture.

I don't mean this flippantly, but what big picture?

I really am interested to know what benefits we're getting from leaving the EU. We voted 4 years ago and I've still seen nothing to suggest there's any notion of a plan for this country post EU.

I want the best for this country but all I can see are a few people trashing the place so them and their mates can make millions at the expense of everyone else.

I am on an FB group about living abroad. Its amazing the number of Americans who cannot believe Brits gave up the right and option to freely live, work and travel to anywhere in the EU. They say they would give their eye teeth for that right.

I would suggest that on an individual level most of the working people of this country see Europe as a holiday destination and little more , they see no direct personal gain from being a member state and therefore question why we send vast amounts of our taxes to them every year .

This is probably very true and certainly the way Leave presented it.

I suppose they'll find out when jobs start to go, when goods aren't as cheap as they once were, they can't get the eBay and Amazon bargains they can't have, when there are no more regeneration projects in the poor areas of the UK. Cornwall has already asked the government for a handout to replace the old EU grant. As have the farmers.

That is just not true. Especially for the younger generations.

Even as a holiday destination, things will change.

The idea we send loads of money to the EU with no benefit has already been shown to be a lie.

I think that we could actually make a success of it , but we need vast investment and I don't see that coming anytime soon . A lot of the wealth of this country was previously gained from our natural resources , coal , gas and iron and the industry they powered was the envy of the industrialised world for much of our history . We have the technology to build clean coal powered electricity generation facilities , once you have clean cheap power the path to cheap high quality steel is secured and from that other manufacturing becomes more profitable , all of which create jobs and tax payers which is what we need to survive in the world .

@ Duke , again I would suggest that recent votes have shown the case to be opposite that which you claim , I am not saying that you are factually incorrect with regards to the benefits of being a member just in the way that the majority of people perceive the situation .

I wonder if the people who voted for it will have the dignity to shut up and put up with the sh!t this causes or whether they'll be the ones complaining the most?

This is my biggest worry. We could lead the way in a number of sectors but this government's only intention seems to be turning us into a tax haven and a USA satellite state.

I think the way we've treated the EU during the discussions is a worry as well. Like the EU or not, they are on our doorstep and potentially a big customer. We've shat on their doorstep.

Boris and Cummings want to do a deal with the USA that will make a deal with the EU nigh on impossible.

To be fair, it's also amazing the number of Americans who think Europe in it's entirety consists of only London, Paris, Rome, and Venice. And probably Italy too. (facepalm)
