So where would people like to live if they wanted to leave where they're at now?

I was tempted in my late 20s to move, but my wife is an only child and was very close to her family, so we didn't.

Brits do tend to go to English speaking countries. I know a few people who have gone to Canada and they love it out there. I've never been so I can't comment but it looks like it's always cold.

I have family in Canada and it's always interested me. Australia and New Zealand next with USA and Spain bringing up the rear.

Concerns with USA and Spain over work and increases in tax/living costs.

English speaking Canada or New Zealand, as I like the outdoors. Non-English speaking, probably Portugal, Spain or Italy ideally in the mountains.

Fancied Aus but wife wouldnt have it. Tried Spain but again not interested so moved 3 mile up the road

Never wanted to move abroad... did move to Wales from SE Oxfordshire, lasted 11 months , hated it ..managed to get across the border to Hereford and lasted 3 years

Finally moved back to 3 miles away from where I grew up .SE Oxfordshire.. better to regret the things you have done , than to regret the things you haven't !!

I'm glad I got it out of my system and know it wasn't for me .. my cousin bought a place in S. France many years ago, but still hasn't lived in it as planned and used it as a holiday home instead

As soon as the kids can stand on their own two feet I'm planning on getting out of the UK.

My current preference is Portugal, the MiL and her partner moved out there a few years back. We've been over and stayed a couple of times and it's a beautiful country, not with out it's problems granted. But I really could see myself living there happily.

Being honest, I would avoid English speaking countries and English people in general.

Realistically, France has a much better standard of life, imho. More laid back, less material stuff and your money will buy a better property with more land for half the price if you stay away from the tourist areas.

If money was no object though I would move to the Neapolitan riviera in Italy.

Whatever, we do have some ideas to move abroad in a few years time. I really don’t want to grow old in the UK.

I've often wondered this. My limited experience of other countries has always educated me, but living in a place is very different from visiting imo.

I would probably follow the advice of others if I were to emigrate. My baby brother did one of those "year out, travel the world" things. His verdict, probably New Zealand, as it was like the UK but back in the 50's. Having said that he's been living in Catalonia for the past 10 years.!

I have family in NZ on the south island, another in Sydney and yet more in Canada (Toronto) so I would have to choose, or Northern Spain, the roads are supposed to be amazing there for bikes.

If I had the money to do it then NZ is probably my first choice. Seems a more relaxed way of life compared to the UK.

I’d be back in NZ now if it wasn’t for custody conditions holding me in Aus. Jess is keen to move there too. I could still work offshore, i’d just have to get myself to and from Sydney. Been a few guys that have/are doing it.

It’s not that different from Aus but outdoor pursuits are so much more accessible and varied. Motorbiking is awesome, roads are brilliant. Mountain biking is world class as well. Diving is not always as scenic as Aus but you always come back with a catch bag of crayfish or scallops or similar.

And generally people are more friendly at home I’ve found and it’s the main thing people that visit always say to me.

The spiders and snakes are limited to certain areas from what i understand.

The heat? No. I would swap heat for our weather here any day. And yes i know the heat there can be extreme but again its not everywhere and i think NZ is quite temperate.
