The Rise of Racism
Trumps recent comments about 4 women "going back home" didn't seem to get the full backlash it deserved. The Troy party has a massive issue with Islamaphobia but it's barely mentioned. Only Corbyn's criticism of Israel seems to be enough to draw a cry of "racist" these days.
So is racism on the rise? Are people speaking more freely, which means we've always had an issue with racists or are more people starting to think that issues with the country they live in are all downt o someone with different coloured skin?

Far-right protests are attracting the largest number of supporters since the 1930s as Brexit fuels anger against the “elite”, a report has warned.
Research for the Commission for Countering Extremism, seen exclusively by The Independent, said tens of thousands of people have descended on London since the start of 2018 over Tommy Robinson’s imprisonment and delays to Britain’s departure from the EU.
Some “Free Tommy” protests spilled over into violent attacks on police officers, while “Brexit betrayal” marches saw demonstrators carry nooses and drag effigies of politicians through the streets.
A report by Dr Joe Mulhall, a senior researcher at Hope Not Hate, warned that “the inability of politicians to manage Brexit competently and decisively” was undermining faith in the political system.

Re: The Rise of Racism
I don't think people have suddenly got anymore racist, they've just got more vocal. The media rather than call it out have actively perpetuated it and given a huge amount of air time to **** like Farage and Robbinson. They've effectively normalised it.

Re: The Rise of Racism
I saw that both the Daily Mail and The Telegraph were quick to criticise two of England's cricket players getting out of the way of the champagne celebrations.
We've just won a world cup and people are more interested in a couple of Muslims avoiding alcohol.

Ironically it was the Daily Mail doing exactly that back in the 30s

Re: The Rise of Racism
Right wing politics only ever leads to war and conflict. I wonder how many of those showing their racist colours now would run a mile if asked to actually fight in a war?

My mate has Jamaican origins. He's starting to look darker and darker. And I'm liking him less and less. When he gets lighter again in the winter I'll hang out with him again

Re: The Rise of Racism
Just to add some perspective....(and I can't believe I'm defending Trump here)...
Trump was responding, at least in part, to a recent spate of anti-Semitic remarks made by Ilhan Omar. Her remarks were directed against US support of Israel, hence the "If you don't like the wsy we do things, etc....." remarks from Trump.
Ilhan Omar has since withdrawn her remarks, and (I think) apologized for them.

Re: The Rise of Racism
Like I said, you can't criticise Israel.
But regardless of her comments about the US support of Israel, Trump could have addressed that without his racist comment.

Re: The Rise of Racism
It's the standard American comeback, I'm afraid...."If you don't like it here, go back where you came from.." etc.
Of course, it goes without saying that no other country in the world harbors similar viewpoints.

3 of the people he said that to were born in the USA.
Regardless, such comments are not acceptable.

Yes, but were they "born down in a dead man's town", and "the first kick they took was when they hit the ground??"Kwacky wrote:3 of the people he said that to were born in the USA.

Re: The Rise of Racism
His next comment will be ‘if these people don’t go we will make them go’.
That’s how **** likes Trump work.

Trump's comments on the Central Park Five are shocking. Were in 1989 and still are today.
