Re: The next prime minister
Forgot to mention this at the time, but..
When the media was focusing on Boris's Pork Pies, was I the only one who's thoughts immediately went to "Yes Minister" & the episode where the team created a storm about the EU wanting to "ban the British Sausage", purely to boost Jim Hacker's image in the eyes of the British public.
Don't know about life imitating art, but that certainly seemed to me another case of "politics imitating comedy".?

Re: The next prime minister
Justine Greening has told the PM that she will not be standing for the conservatives at the next election.
Others are expected to follow suit.

I bet May is pissing herself laughing. Changing the PM has changed nothing.

Re: The next prime minister
If Johnson is defeated today and he can't get the votes needed for a general election then he could call for a vote of no confidence.
Which Labour would oppose.
The madness continues.

Re: The next prime minister
Because they have created such a mess where they know the majority will lose out and both Labour and the Tories will have an election that both know they probably can’t win outright and will end up in a coalition.

Yep. Lib Dems swear a new one in, then a few more Tories throw the towel in.

Re: The next prime minister
Did you see that Lee got up midway through Johnson's speech to go and sit with the LibDems?

Re: The next prime minister
I wonder if that has ever happened before? In the middle of his speech in Parliament, he loses his majority.

Re: The next prime minister
The last PM to lose his first Parliamentary vote was Pitt the Younger in 1793.
Is Boris next?

Re: The next prime minister
Watching the House of Commons channel and the news tonight, which I never do..... all I can say Boris is a big fat liar, his cronies are liars, and they are just a bunch of total Cnuts, what a farce, what a joke, makes you embarrassed to be British......and the speaker of the house is the biggest twat of them all, it's all a game to them, like a giant pantomime, sick of the lots of them, dragging the country and our people through this shit, and news on HS2, ha! Surprise NOT!
And yet all of them no doubt filling their pockets on the back of it......5th of November soon..... time for some history to be repeated and actually completed lol.....twats......

Re: The next prime minister
The current system is far too confrontational imho.
Much too "them & us"
Much too "we do it this way, they do it that way"
Much too easy for people to use it to service their own agendas, rather than having to positively contribute to the improved running of our country.
As I have pointed out in this thread numerous times.: I do understand why so many people were sold on the idea of "regaining control", however I have to wonder how many are informed about this system that they wish to retain.?

As it stands, i don't believe we can.Kwacky wrote:It's all bollocks. We're still crashing out with a no deal on the 31st.
Johnson has no power at all. He cannot even call an election without approval from Parliament, which at the moment, they will not give him.

I'm guessing Corbyn's approach to the GE is to sit and watch Boris squirm and suffer then hope the next GE goes his way?

Re: The next prime minister
No the Labour Party's strategy is to take no-deal off the table before any election. If the opposition parties vote for an election as it stands today Boris gets to choose the date. He could choose to set the election date after we crash out on the 31st of October, and he would.
