Price of unleaded
Paid over £1.30 a litre this afternoon.
Fuel prices are the biggest rip off of all. Why are thy escalating at a frightening rate?

Re: Price of unleaded
Dunno but the prices have gone up a lot over the last few weeks. They were in the mid teens not so long ago

Re: Price of unleaded
It's the cost of delivery that puts the price up.

Re: Price of unleaded
Google tells me that a sudden drop in US stocks has led to them buying up a bunch of UK stock...or at least, oil that was allocated to the UK is now headed here....and from other sources too, I'm sure. The figure £1.50 per litre was being bandied about. Don't shoot the messenger

Re: Price of unleaded
In the last 3 months Brent crude price has risen nearly 20% and that will have had an effect.
I hardly ever look at the price tbh but last time I did VPower was 1.37 so maybe it's near 1.50 now by the sound of things. Not ideal when the car does 15mpg

Don't forget that the Brexshit saga has significantly devalued the purchasing power of our currency in the global markets. That is bound to to have an effect too, isn't it.?

Re: Price of unleaded
Yup.
The GBP is at $1.30 ATM....which is pretty sad. It used to be one of the benchmarks to go by....and probably still is, though not in as good a way as previously.

Not to blame for the end of the world in any way shape or form mate.Blade wrote:..... Brexit is only to blame for the end of world it has little to do with the price of petrol
End of the UK's cosy little number however, seems pretty much a given now.
Still, those blue passports..*

Re: Price of unleaded
Fuel around here is 121.9 and 127.9 (petrol/diesel)
It's near the point of making a 40mpg petrol car worthwhile over a 55mpg diesel car (Simply guesswork.. I haven't done the math)

My 1.5 Petrol Audi A3 is as economical as my previous diesel 2.0 Audi A4 and has the same bhp and is nicer to drive.

Re: Price of unleaded
If I could afford a newer car it would likely be one of the VAG 1.4/1.5TSI engines. They just aren't as good on fuel on a long run. Newcastle and back was over 60mpg with 4 adults plus luggage at 90mph the whole way in my A4 1.9TDi

Re: Price of unleaded
I've just bought a 1.4Tsi SEAT so will be interesting comparison of mpg of a 2.0 tdi.
It apparently shuts down cylinders when not required too.
If you go by the manufacturer figures it should be better.

Mine shuts down two cylinders when not in use.
Great tech and you cannot feel it happen.
My car is just starting to hit 50+mpg on a run.

Re: Price of unleaded
My 2001 VW Golf 1.9 tdi would do 50mpg average without me trying and I had a heavy right foot too. It was probably 60+mpg on a run if I drove like miss daisy. I would have expected advancements since 2001 to be honest. Not meant negative but those figures don't seem that impressive to me.
