To be honest, i would be joining them if i was able. There seems to be no sense of community in this country these days.

Thats a good article. France is very much about community.

The more you dig over here, the more brits you find to be honest.

Rural france is struggling, there is very little work. Without retirees and pensions, the place would be dead to be honest. There are French that dont like the brits, but a lot of it is borne out of money jealousy to be honest, they see people come over and spend more than they ever would on a property, but that is because the French live rather than aspire for 'things'. They appreciate nice things but dont lust after much and thats refreshing.

That is changing slowly in the age of the internet, but the internet also means (for us) that we are well in touch with whats going on.

Its much easier than you think to move over here and there are some fabulous properties for very little money indeed. Talking to people round here (especially expats) there are still plenty coming over here and it's a good time to buy. After Brexit and things have calmed down i predict prices and popularity will be higher and it will be harder to do, especially with the predicted slide of the pound.

They are very different countries, but the UK has certainly lost it's identity, France does still have that and a 'way of life'.

I do find it a bit odd that some Brits go overseas on the basis that there is no community life here and then set up a community elsewhere. There's nothing stopping them from doing that in the UK.

Moving to the mainland is something I would like to explore.

Money is why they don’t do that here.

And the fact so many people are spending their life racing around doing stuff all the time and are rarely at home. The only time we see our neighbours is if they are getting in or out of their cars.

As I have gotten older I would much prefer to live somewhere quieter outside even a town. To do that in the UK costs at least treble what it would in France if not more. We have looked at it but it means a bigger mortgage still and I don’t want to do that. When Alex decides his future next year we will look at downsizing and reducing our mortgage as much as possible and then deciding on the next step.

you can get a plot of land to live on for free from the government , on the Pitcairn islands , population about 50 , most popular form of transport is the quad bike , there is electricity from 7 am until 10 pm and internet access via a 4g network .

Because they don't have to?? - "Where needs must", etc.??

I think if you move overseas, then you're in someone else's house, sitting at their table....you can add a bit of your own flavouring....oops - "flavoring" if you like - but end of the day it's their food you're eating. Don't like it? - stay the fcuk at home in future.

In 2004, charges were laid against seven men living on Pitcairn and six living abroad. This accounted for nearly a third of the male population. After extensive trials, most of the men were convicted, some with multiple counts of sexual encounters with children.[28] On 25 October 2004, six men were convicted, including Steve Christian, the island's mayor at the time.[29][30][31] In 2004, the islanders had about 20 guns among them, which they surrendered ahead of the sexual assault trials.[32] After the six men lost their final appeal, the British government set up a prison on the island at Bob's Valley.[33][34] The men began serving their sentences in late 2006. By 2010, all had served their sentences or been granted home detention status.[35]

2010 and 2016 trials[edit]

In 2010, the mayor Mike Warren faced 25 charges of possessing images and videos of child pornography on his computer.[36][37] In 2016 Warren was found guilty of downloading more than 1000 images and videos of child sexual abuse. Warren began downloading the images some time after the 2004 sexual assault convictions. During the time he downloaded the images he was working in child protection. Warren was also convicted of engaging in a "sex chat" with someone who he believed was a 15-year-old girl.[38]

I'll pass.

We aren't building communities, we're mostly building hotels with mortgages.

The reason we dont have communities here. (Look at pic)

Also if you look at my parents estate since living there they have seen waves of new owners down their street. It's not a 100+ home estate either it's only got 30 homes TOPS!

Picture taken by myself just down the road from me (approx 5 mins drive away)

These prices are starting prices for 2 bed homes...Image

I wonder if people would pay that sort of money if they knew the estate opposite them was the worst in our area. With gangs going around robbing homes, thieves literally walking around with tellys in their arms offering it for £50. Gangs literally crowding people and robbing them at any time of the day. Have you heard of doing a runner from taxis at all?? Well they didn't do that instead they would drag the driver out and smash them up outside then walk off. And now the old bill have to spend half their time driving around it.

Luckily last couple of years it's got better as the last known gang got arrested and locked up with their mates due to being caught robbing homes in another local town.
