'They Shall Not Grow Old'

Post by Rossgo »

This is being released for 3 days this week, Fri, Sat and Sun. WW1 in colour as a feature length film. I'm going to see if i can book a ticket to see this before my night shift on Saturday

This looks stunning and I reckon horrifying all wrapped into one

Anyone else seeing this?

I'll not get chance to watch it this weekend.

Amazing technology used to colour in the old footage.

Booked to see this on the Saturday before work. They have worked hard on getting this right, looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. Think it will be harrowing stuff

Saw this just before work as I'm on nights tonight.

This was incredible Well worth watching on BBC tomorrow night. Its amazing what they have managed to achieve for with the orginal footage.

It's gone to show how much this world has changed. Number of points stuck out to me through this, eg 15 year old lads joining up becaude they wanted too regardless of what parents said, when the British got POWs medics from either side helped one another regardless of nationality, the soliders were in high spirits and kep their humour even though death was a daily thing and when they got home the civvies didn't want to know them, mass unemployment and shops and warehouses would even state ex serviceman do not apply.

I liked my history at school, it's important that we know this stuff but listening to soliders of The Great war and watching the footage in colour in real speed just puts everything in realness if that makes sense

Well worth watching like i say

Changing world Darren.?
That used to apply, albeit that should read "politicians start wars- "
Politicians are getting younger these days, as your own country's recent elections illustrates quite well.?

Then I guess at the most basic level you have to ask how does killing people solves problems.

It removes half the problem, and leaves only the half you believe in (wasntme)

At least that's the aim (blush)

I managed to watch this last night on I player, an amazing well done program.
These guys had no clue what was about to happen to them.

How the **** do we still go to war when we know this and see this, I say this everytime I see something like this (roll eyes), but by far this had to be the most touching, bring it home documentary on the subject I have seen.

It should be shown in schools as a matter of course.

Sadly we allow our politicians to create further division and mistrust, Frankie.

We are generally pretty much all the same with very similar values in life, yet people continue to be led by the idiots spouting their nonsense for their own personal gain. I heard once or twice last night the British soldiers saying how, once they had met them, the German soldiers were no different to them and didn't want to be there killing each other.

Wars are fought differently these days between the 'power nations'.. it's all done through economics and remote controlled bombers. The people making the decision to go to war are never in danger so it doesn't bother them.

As for the smaller countries going to war, they're just 100 years behind and don't have the capital to buy their win like the 'power nations'

Wars now are info and economic wars. We've seen how the media can be controlled and how social media is used to influence people.

“The war of 1914-18 was imperialist (that is, an annexationist, predatory, war of plunder) on the part of both sides; it was a war for the division of the world, for the partition and repartition of colonies and spheres of influence of finance capital.” - Lenin

The First World War was all about the prevention of an oil pipeline being built for Germany. Germany was in the process of moving towards a new navy and that navy needed oil. It would have threatened the Empires around them and, as Lenin said, would have had a direct impact on the desires of those Empires and their intention to colonise. Gemany wanted to be a superpower - the others wanted to stop it. The carve up of the Baltic states when Russia dropped out is evidence of this.
