I'm not sure why they're going back to it, but at least Tom is on a decent looking motorbike.

Why bother revisiting it?

Film used to be an art form. Its now just a money making racket in the main.

Why not??

There's been talk of a Top Gun sequel ever since the original movie was released. It was a frickin' HUUUGE film back in '86.

AND, there was some decent backstory to it. US Navy recruitment levels fell to an all-time low after "An Officer And A Gentleman" back in '82-''83 (????).
The Navy got behind "Officer" and offered full-cooperation provided that the filmmakers portrayed the Navy in a positive manner.
Recruitment levels went through the roof in the months following the film's release.
Highest levels since the Vietnam draft era, or sommit like that.
