The best bit about that?

G4S are allowed to go back in once the government has sorted out the mess made by G4S

I've never understood privatising something so fundamental to society as law and order.

Something has to give in all prisons i would imagine. It has to be made into something you dont want to spend time in. Anyone watch that prison documentary on the bbc a couple of weeks ago? People getting nicked deliberately so they can get back to prison to carry on dealing drugs and it's more profitable than crime on the outside. FFS.

The wife says at one time you would not mess with a prison officer as they were as hard as nails, quite often ex-forces.

Now they employ anyone as long as they work for a low wage.

Privatization is fine if it's to make things better. Not so fine if it's just to save money....which is so often the case.

You can't save money by privatising something unless you reduce the level of service , usually achieved by cutting staffing levels and rates of pay , then by stealing the pension funds all the while paying huge dividends to shareholders and massive bonuses to senior management . Then you sell as many assets as possible ,file for bankruptcy and ask the government to bail you out .

G4S already runs a private police service in Lincolnshire.

G4S used to be Securicor, a veritable bastion of private protection.

ImageImage let the army take over and stay there. Prison isn't a holiday camp. Once a day they are also suppose to do shooting practice...who will be the lucky 10 today with the target painted on their heads...Save millions on the SAT ranges lol

I do think prisons should be harder. Get them up at 6m, make them do drill, put them in uniforms, give them basic schooling if the need it.

Yep, the prison system is too light on these guys. Think we could be doing a lot more. I think we are too scared of being called anything bad if we went harder on people, but until that day there's going to be guys out there that are quite happy going in and out of prison

(wait) You didn't mention the
3x square meals a day
Warm & dry with a roof over their heads & a bed to sleep in
Wash & cleaning facilities
All provided at no charge, & with no input or responsibility required from the prisoners.
etc.......

There are "free" people in our society who are afforded no such luxuries.

Well when we incarcerate someone, we're effectively assuming responsibility for that person's life. So we do have an obligation to keep them/"maintain" them in a manner that is humane.

And yes, there are free people who don't enjoy such luxuries. But they do enjoy their freedom.

Incarceration increasingly proves itself to be a costly & ineffective response to anti-social & lawless conduct.
Just because it's been the traditional way to react to undesirable conduct, does not mean it should remain so.

Freedom's just another word for nothing left to loose
& nothing ain't worth nothing, - but it's free

Homelessness is spiraling out of control in the western world. I was shocked to see how prevalent it is in Leicester when Alex went back to Uni.

There is no excuse for allowing to to happen in a society that is apparently so wealthy. Politicians should be ashamed its so common on UK streets.
