FWIW, I do use the facebook app and messenger app BUT my phone runs LineageOS which allows fine grain control over the app permissions. There is no way the apps can read any of the data I don't want them too. I also have the privacy controls turned right up, it took an old friend of mine 3 years to find me.

Oh, don't only be worried about porn on the telly, just wait for some dipshit presenter to do another "Alexa, order me a dolls house" prank... https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/01/0 ... _she_does/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I wonder how long it will be until someone can just stand outside your house with a loudspeaker and play "Ok Google, unlock the frontdoor and remind me where i left my car keys"

I'd choose the Amazon/Alexa devices. For one, the echo has better sound quality but the main reason is that I have, and use constantly, Amazon Prime.

The only thing I'd be missing out on is the connectivity between Smart Hub and my Phone for things like commute times and calendar events saved on my phone. This isn't something I'm fussed about though to be honest as my phone tells me this when it connects to the bluetooth in my car

We went with Google Home Cav as we have Andriod smart phones and tablets so easy / good connectivity plus the assistant on google home is much better as it has all of googles vast search engine to use and is also better with speech recognition and you can have a conversation with it.

You can ask it the weather and then say "and tomorrow" and its smart enough to realise your still discussing weather where Alexia gets confused and doesn't link the previous sentence and treats each new command as new and not possibly linked to previous commands.

Another plus feature for Google Home is it looks much better and less industrial.

There both good systems and each has its strong points so you have to select the one which best suits your individual needs.

I agree for the most part, although I think Google Home looks like an air freshener. That said, the Google Home Mini is better looking than the Echo Dot.

In terms of conversation, Alexa is improved week-on-week. The big plus for me with Alexa is that it can turn my TV on and start waching a program all in one command. No need for the remote control besides volume - although I haven't tried that yet. "Alexa, watch Lucifer on the Fire TV Stick".

Blade i love it. Think that is awesome bit of tech being able to ask it commute times etc. I think we sre prob all heading that way anyway, would love it to write out a shopping list and other bits, keeps everything a lot more simple for our ever busier lives. Your house is super modern!
