Possible house move

As mentioned in the other thread, me and Mrs Kwacky did look at a house last night.

Only a 3 bed semi but all of the bedrooms are doubles, the front drive and the rear garden are pretty big and yes, there is a garage. However, the garage isn't big. It would do for a bike or two with tools and my kit. At least the insurance would be cheaper. Not cheaper than the massive increase in mortgage payments though (lol)

It's in a mixed area. The row of houses this one is on is mostly 4 and 5 bedroom semi detached. Over the road is a small council estate of old style but it's hidden behind a wall. The owner told me they've been there 12 years with no problems.

We've been in our house for over 20 years. I love where we live and I really am in two minds about moving. If we don't move then we'll stay in our current house and have it refurbished. It needs a new bathroom and the rest of the house could do with a tidy up.

I liked the house we saw but I want to see it in the day. There's a lot of room around it so there are options to expand but to be honest it felt big enough for me.

Houses on my road take on average 6 days to sell so we can take our time having a look around

I know you like where you are but you often mention a garage so that would seem a big positive and sounds in a nice area. If you can afford the mortgage increase and want it, I say go for it as it's an investment and mortgage rates are still low so good time to borrow.

You can always down size later and release capital for retirement or whatever you want.

I'd want to look at it in daylight before I'd even consider a move if I were in your position.

@Jack - I've got a lot of equity in my current house so I want to use that to keep my mortgage payments relatively low when we move so I can still afford to do the stuff like Euro trips.

@Blade - that's my current thinking. I can get 5 years fixed at 1.79% At the end of that my daughter will be at uni so I can always look to move again or stay and build up more equity.

@D41 absolutely. It was just a quick look last night to get a feel for the place.

Bricks and mortar are a sound investment you actually get to enjoy and benefit from too.

A garage that can only sleep two bikes?

Find a bigger garage and smaller bedrooms. :D

Moving house is always a massive decision. We have started to look at areas to move to for when Alex has finished Uni. Ours will be too big for us then.

It will be time to downsize then or make life changing/improving decisions.

Mate id defo go and view at night on a friday and Saturday. And just sit in the car watching the local road, take a walk around the area too. When me and my misses decided to move where we sre now we went at night to check out the locals, is there parties, are there druggies, are there youths hanging about in hoodies waiting to mug ya etc etc.

Anyway me and my misses did it across a fee nights at weekends, and i think it was the first or second night we decided to take a walk around the area. One of our neighbours popped out with his dog and he was proper friendly he told us everything aboit the area and good and bads literally everything he said is correct and lived here for 4 yesr or so now. But i think the night tells you a lot about the area not just through the day.

I've booked Friday off so I can get the house ready to put on the market.

I've already spoken with a mate who is an architect about an extension on the house. He's give me a rough quote based on the dimensions I've given and what I've told him we want doing.

It looks like this is happening.

I feel a little bit sick.

good luck mate, I know far too well that even easy house moves are a pain in the backside.

Personally avoid any free legals offered by lenders and I would have thought you have a conveyancer you can trust just the amount of issues were getting with the free legals at the moment are a joke, not just us, but industry wide.
