Good article. I'm inclined to agree. I'll always give cyclists space and let them pull out if I can give them a gap in the traffic. I just hope they reciprocate.

(lol) (lol) especially those middle aged Lycra clan ones huh Perks ;)

They just past a law in Aussie last week. Mandatory to give cyclists a 1 metre clearence when passing them in a motor vehicle. A third of your licence points and a fine if you don’t.

Australia in general has a poor attitude to cyclists compared to NZ. In no small part this is due to the behaviour of the large packs of cafe to cafe cyclists that dominate lanes by being 4-5 abreast. Rather than polite co use of the roadways, here they seem to treat it like a war.

Oi. I resemble that remark... ;)

To anyone who thinks the middle aged Lycra clad ones are the worst.... You should see the middle aged commuters on foldup bikes in London... Only one thing matters..

Good & bad with everything, I suppose....I love cycling, always have, always will - anything on two wheels, I reckon.

And lycra rocks, BTW.....true, it does make you look like a bit of an unemployed trapeze-artist if you're still wearing it after your ride, and it's definitely not the garb-of-choice for trolling the aisles of your local supermarket on the prowl for skirt. But it defo serves a purpose, and serves it well.

Sadly, these days it also helps to add a bit of visual emphasis to anyone who might 'allegedly' have acquired a bit of a paunch.

Or at least that's what I've heard.
