Good idea. Stop reliance on the middle east, cut out the money going into Saudi which means an end to their funding Islamic Fundamentalists

And save the environment.

I don't see why not. The means are already there, it's just got to have a driver, which this policy is. 23 yrs is a long time in with the rate technology is improving these days

I guess they need to build alot of nuclear power stations before 2040 to generate all the clean electricity they will need.

I just don't see people changing to an alternative until they HAVE to.

I sincerely hope so. Bikes are soooo "last year", and I need an X-Wing badly.
Plus some other cool sh!t....speeder bike, TIE-fighter, etc....just the essentials, nothing frivolous or nowt.

We are living in the golden age of the internal combustion engine. Make the most of it while it lasts.

I am today. I dropped my diesel engined Audi off for some accident repair work and they gave me a full fat performance edition petrol Golf GTI.

Took me flipping ages to get home!

I remember my Nan didn't like it when we went to home telephones with keypads.

None of us want to give up our petrol fix, but imagine the technological developments that will have happened in 23 years. I for one will embrace the concept, as long as it is affordable.

23 years ago I didn't even have a mobile, 20 years ago I got my first one that was the size of a brick and I couldn't even play Snake on it!

Now I can watch porn in HD whilst my phone tells me where I am in the world and is uploading what I'm doing to all my friends. (Although telling them I'm watching porn in HD is not advisable!)

I saw an article today saying how Japanese scientists were attempting to develop plasma engines for space travel.

Fricking plasma engines, I tells ya!

We won't be driving them by then, so from an enjoyment point of view it won't matter if they run petrol, hydrogen, electricity or pumpkin juice.

It's not so much the golden age of the combustion engine, more the golden age of actually driving yourself!

I suspect we wont even own a vehicle by 2040. They will be taxis we just call up on our app.

The driving/riding fix will probably only be available on racetracks.
