Nah mate, these guys are relatively harmless, and an important part of the native ecosystem. The buggers can be hard to catch as they can jump over a metre in a go. Just put a bowl over him and walk him onto a piece of paper, then released him in the garden.

Then he jumps a metre back into the house?

Whereabouts in Oz are you Kiwi?

A mates sister lives somewhere near Perth and I recollect the story of the annual pest control bloke coming round to spray the eaves of the house and there being plenty of dead red backs lying around the next morning.

Also the 'check your shoes or boots before you put them on' each morning as you never know what might have decided that was a nice place to spend the night. :D

I’m in NSW, in the hills behind Sydney on th northern edge of the Blue Mountains National Park. Google “Kurrajong Heights”

Yes checking shoes and boots is an Australian standard practice.

Red backs are pretty common too but not a big bother. It’s the brown snakes and funnel web spiders that are the biggest worry in this area. They’ll kill you if luck is against you and both are known to be agressive. We flushed out a few brown snakes last month when we dug out the track for the slip and slide into the dam.

The worst part about the scandal is that the Aussie team doesn't seem to care they're cheating or that they've been caught.

It’s totally disgusting, they have no support from the public at all.

I'm not surprised, especially when the Aussie team have been so quick in the past of accusing other teams of cheating.
