Impossible Engineering. - it's a fascinating programme.

Did you know turbochargers were invented to enable planes to fly at higher altitude in thinner air and were first tested at the top of the Pikes Peak mountain.

Almost. I remember learning about this in my Aircraft Tech training many moons ago but had to google to confirm my aging memory.

Based on the back of Daimler & Diesel’s research to forced induction by mechanical drive (primitive supercharger) in the late 1800’s a Swiss mechanical engineer Alfred Buchi patented the first practical turbocharger in 1896.

General Electric started to mass produce turbos in the early 1900’s for large diesels but the Head Engineer theorised the benefits of forced induction to account for thinning atmosphere experienced by aircraft. To prove his point he did indeed runs experiments on Pikes Peak which paved the way for aviation use.

Have to tip my hat that was mighty impressive.
Just watched that myself and have to agree. The segment on Jim Clarke was a real education for me and an amazing story of a deadset legend.

The morning news.

A Los Angeles man fleeing Police last night decided to jump into Hansen Dam Lake and hide UNDERWATER from his pursuers.

Police divers have recovered the body early this morning.

Yes the Jim Clarke section got me a little bit at the end! Seeing two seperate grown men not being able to hold back their tears... The Fiancé was in the other room but came and stood in the doorway to watch most of it. She was upset too bless her - she'd only heard her Dad mention Jim Clarke's name during an episode of Tenable

Watching a YouTube video of an RAF-themed Bonneville. It's a bit meh.

....And idly wondering if BMW do any Luftwaffe-specials. Which would be frickin' epic...!!!
