kiwikrasher wrote:Literally as I posted that there was a news article about epidemic anxiety levels for secondary school students in Australia.

There’s got to be something in the school systems that is causing all this.
Schools are judged by results so they put so much pressure on the kids to achieve the results the SCHOOL wants.

Not everyone is academically inspired or gifted but its the only thing kids are judged by at school. The mental health issues the wife has to deal with for the kids at school are very scary but add in the adults problems too and we are on a slippery slope.

The books by Ruby Wax on the subject are well worth a read.

Coincidentally I bought “Sane New World” by Ruby Wax earlier this year for Mrs Gee, she rates it highly.

This is drilled into you at school.. I felt like a failure when I dropped out of A-levels and went to college because my school was a grammar school who clearly defined a route of: GSCE > A-Levels > Degree

I've realised that this approach from the school is an attempt to get the students who don't try to break their norm and to put some bloody effort in. I'm sure she did everything she could and what will be will be. Hopefully she does well enough to get to her next stepping stone

Some people...

We are all different of course, but tonight has become a little nuts.

I'm driving home to France tomorrow morning and an old Uni mate rang me a week or two ago asking if he could come and have a look at what we have done in France.

No problem i say, i have a spare seat to come back, so a free trip if you want it.

I'm staying here overnight and have had a long week working and driving and a long day driving north and then south today, so i'm tired and hungry - got here when i said i would and all organised.

When i get here he's not here. Where are you? oh shopping. Ok... I'm here. Eventually he comes back. He's cooking dinner for us - great, early night then early start.

Oh i've got to go back out for ingredients for dinner.... ok - what were you buying when you were at the shops? Some of the the ingredients. Not all of them? No. Its only spag bol ffs.

So he goes back out.. 2 hours ago. Still not even back or started dinner.

The flat he lives in is a pig sty and i mean a fooking tip. No space everywhere, dirty, stinky. No bed for me to sleep on - its covered in stuff and dirty. Bathroom stinks and its just a mess. I'm not even sure how hes going to cook anything - the hob, surfaces and sink are full of dirty plates, dishes and stuff, so i might catch something nasty. (wasntme)

When people stay with us we make every effort to make it clean, lovely and put work into doing so.

Here i just want to leave now.

I'm venting because i'm tired and hungry, but this is ridiculous. I dont mind helping anyone out and catching up, but no effort at all? FFS. He's not even been at work today either!

I really dont get some people. Its not hard to be clean and respectful.

He might not be coming the way i feel at the moment. Grr

Wish me luck.

Leave now. Leave a note.
Reading between the lines it's probably going to save you a lot of grief.

Besides if he treats his own property in that way, and messes you about like that, he's not going to be a fun lodger at Chez-Cookie.

Not being funny cookie but maybe best to make an excuse and leave. I hope everything works out but I fully understand. Me and my misses try our best keeping the place up to a reasonable standard and if we get guests then we give it a good going over. Good luck

Leave. No respect for himself = none for anyone else.

OR.....dump him at a gas station miles from anywhere, and drive off, laughing maniacally as you burn rubber off into the distance.

Either he's very selfish or he's incredibly ignorant. Either way it doesn't take much to call in a takeaway and tidy up a bit.

I ate at 9. I've given him a bollocking.

He was never the most organised but I've told him to sort his shit out (he hasn't packed either) and I've made my own bed and thrown stuff out the way.

Hes not got an ehic card or medical insurance (even though I told him to get both) so I've told him if he does not get some online tonight I'm not taking him.

Up at 4 so I've gone to bed. I hate shouting but at least I feel better :D

Bloody British. What a slovenly bunch we have become. .

Think I would be sneaking out early and leave him behind.

Well done for telling him how it is, like the others have said, I would’ve bailed as well. Really hope he can’t swing the insurance and you leave him behind, sounds like he’ll just be a parasite.

My best mate of 35 years was a bit slobby in our early 20’s, while he was living solo. Every time I visited him for a stay I’d get there while he was still at work, find his reefer stash, help myself then spend the 4-5 hours till he got home cleaning and tidying. Then I felt comfortable staying ( but he wasn’t nearly as bad as that bloke sounds). Luckily he has been with his lovely wife since 25 and she keeps him in check.

Hope it all worked out Cookie

He's got two large dogs who are very expensive to feed.

There's often a single solution for more than one problem ;)

Bank vent.

I have a very good bank and it’s not really their fault it’s just the lending rules but it’s screwed me over.

The mortgage on my investment property has always been interest only, makes the most financial sense for investment and pretty much a necessity for me managing two properties on a single income.

Well the fix term expired and I signed up for another 3 yrs at a fixed rate.(Not a new application, just a loan rate re-fixing) But failed to notice it was converting to principle and interest. So got a overdue note for the principle amount in the first month of the new term. No worries, realise my mistake and asked to go back to interest only. No, not that simple, they require a new mortgage application and servicing assessment. Oh your on income protection, sorry you don’t qualify for the loan. So I’m now stuck paying principle on my investment property till I go back onto full wages and have three months consecutive payslips showing so.

It’s going to cause me to go backwards even faster. I’ve been eroding savings for the 8 months I’ve been on income protection but not too badly. This is going to put a bit more of a dent in it. I’ll survive.
