Oh and this... Ever heard of print to file in a browser or the good old print screen button?

I love the way people talk about the cloud as if it gets rid of the need for servers.

It gets rid of the need for local servers... you hire someone else's.

I think its good but only for certain applications such as game servers etc.

I certainly wouldn't trust them for anything business related

You dont necessarily have to have managed servers seen by the internet, you can run an entirely private infrastructure over the internet or private connections to and from offices.

The internet or cloud is not necessarily insecure, it depends on how well specified, designed and administrated the system is.

This is partly what i used to do for a living and my first question was always 'why'. There is a business case for outsourcing infrastructure - especially for smaller companies who dont want loads of IT bods on the payroll. The right contract (and penalties) can focus the minds of all involved :) Analysing the risks against cost is first imo,

I wouldn't rule it out until a more detailed discussion had been had.

See even on here there seems to be a big difference in opinion. I don't know enough about it to make these sorts of decisions and its not my shout in this case, i was in the room whilst the discussion went on. I have no doubt that's how we will all work in the end.

D6Nutz, is it not possible to disable the ability to print to file? A friend was in a meeting with a lawyer from one of the top Companies in the Country last year after GDPR went live and he said that staff could only access files on the cloud. They were not allowed to take any laptops out of office with data on them, they were only able to access the cloud with them.

the gas 'engineer' who fitted my smart meter last week and left me with a leak meaning I have had no gas since last night until someone comes to fix his mistake at some point today!

I wasn't home when he installed it my wife was and he has done such a bad job, apparently he even told her "they all leak slightly so don't worry about it" I was mortified when she told me that as was the guy from the gas board who came to switch it all off. not impressed at all

I've had a solicitor chasing me for her client's annual payment. She wouldn't accept it had been paid so I got my client to screenshot their system showing the payment.

Turns out that the solicitor forgot to tell me that the account had been changed

"Sorry for the omission" was the apology I got.

So there's £323k bouncing about at the moment.

Feckin Travel Companies

We are taking the not so young now C00kiemonsters away next month, so we've been looking online for holidays, flights etc to get it booked up. We've got a budget so lots of searching, hotels, trip advisor reviews etc etc.

We find a hotel we like and some good prices on-line of a few companies, so phone up to book.

First 3 i ring want more than on the website or have hidden charges. One gives me a good price, then right at the end announces it's an extra £150 for transfers and baggage! So I want to go abroad in a 6hr plane journey for a week and have no baggage? Are you serious? He then tries to tell me its still a great price and he can do the deal right now. These crappy sales techniques don't work with me - there must be tons of gullible people it does work on i suppose. I told him to get stuffed and hung up.

2 hrs after starting to make calls i find an honest company that doesn't waste my time or try to rip me off that wasnt much more expensive.

The point of this rant is there are so many companies or things you buy now that have hidden costs to get you talking to them and then try to hold you in the sales process to get you to buy. It's a minefield. Half the companies i found online have no travel protection (ABTA) etc too. They can take your money and no-one can do anything if they disappear.

Crappy rant maybe, but i feel better :D

Oh and to cap it all i've got 4 weeks to get a new passport as mine has less than 6 months on it (wasntme)

Got my phone bill through this month, nearly £20 extra - all of it calls to a single solicitors, mainly siting on hold before Christmas trying to get through to chase them. not impressed
