No idea. I think the planners thought about where to put the houses first then worried about parking. Only our neighbour seems to have it right - parking space in front of the garage, garage at the side of the house.

When we first moved in, the owner of the space in-between our 2 spaces parked his car there for about a week, just to let us know he owns it. He's not used it since.

Excessive Workload.

Why the feck do I have all the priority jobs?!

I'm behind on getting a test report completed by about 5 months
I'm behind on my work-based uni project because I am unable to find the time
I managed to send something off to the supplier 2 weeks late because everyone keeps changing their mind and I had to rush a CAD model bodge to make the drawing work - therefore I still have to fix the model and do the drawing properly
I've been handed something else which I spent 3 hours doing this morning but the part numbers given to me are at the wrong level - rather than the person who gave me the wrong numbers having to get the right numbers I have to now download new software to individually get part numbers for over 100 different part numbers and then run calculations which aren't just copy & paste on all of them.

I've had so many sit down meetings to discuss that I'm overloaded and even requested that we recruit someone to enable some of my work load to be lifted but nothing happens.

So pi$$ed off right now!

I'm parking the part number issue and will pick it up when I get round to it. I'm putting my headphones on, getting a coffee and I'm going to do what I want to do which is my Uni work! (finger)

No wonder I'm stressed to the eyeballs and am too exhausted to continue my uni work at home! (fubar)

I still say that if you want to park in the street overnight you should have to buy an expensive permit to do so. I believe Japan follows this rule.

That way planners would have to review how they apportion space for parking and owners might put more thought into how many cars they have.

I loved some of the parking solutions they have in Japan.

That said, they've got a very effective and efficient public transport system. So people are less inclined to want to own a car. Given it's size you don't see that many cars about in Tokyo.

Don't know about others but we could not function without a car and that is in a city with good public transport which we use regularly, but alot of our essential activity we could not do without a car all the same.

We're being pushed more and more to work from home. We'll all be losing our designated desks by summer.

Yep. They're giving us small lockers to put our stuff in and you can't have personal stuff on a desk. It's first come first served. You could end up working around people you've never spoken to before, so discussing cases is going to be a nightmare.

I guess it would save you a fortune in bike wear and tear and fuel - as well as an extra hour or two in bed.

I hate working from home. I spend most of my time making tea and eating biscuits.

Think of the overheads they could save by simply having you go to a branch of MacDonalds each day to work.: Free Wifi connection & their coffee's actually quite good.

GDPR won't allow us to use open networks.

But McDonalds coffee is alright for the money. It's certainly better than Starbucks.

Can’t disagree about working from home, but a clever accountant could probably claim back a portion of your household running costs if you have to do it due to lack of a working space. You just need them to change your “Place of Work” on your Contract of work iirc.

But that is because of piss poor planning. If the car wasn't king and public transport, pushbikes and walking were, then planners would think along those lines first. But since it isn't they can put things where they want, safe in the knowledge people can drive there.

Copenhagen was another eye opener. Cycle lanes that take up part of the roadspace and cycles have right away. If a car wants to turn across the cycle lane they have to wait for any cyclists and there are quite a few of them.

No that wouldn't walk for us Duke. We have football 4 times a week at 3 different venues and we have swimming twice a week but fortunately at the same venue. It's a rush to get to these after school activities and that's with us driving door to door and dropping the kids off before we then go and try to find parking.

My wife cannot get to work and school in suitable times frames again with out door to door transport and even that's a very tight timeline.

We use public transport on a regular basis where it is suitable for our needs, but certain activities that have a genuine benefit to our family life and employment requirement means we need door to door transport. I cant see that changing without significant impact to our family needs, some of which we couldn't accommodate. Its not an option to be late for school or work for example.

Not having a car is not an option for us. Public transport can substitute some of our transport needs but it can never fully replace it and that's the simple truth.

One thing I have noticed in my travels is where public transport is good more kids travel on it. There's not as much insistence that parents do all the ferrying about.

I am not advocating we should do away with cars but I do think other forms of transport should have priority in some cases particularly in urban areas.
