We had a meeting today at work, part of the promotion of our new values scheme, which is supposed to make where we work a better place.

As you know, I'm the sceptical sort and what I've seen of it so far is nothing but lip service.

But today was a meeting worth going to. We had give an example of where we've not been supportive. So two of us told everyone about the way some members of staff talk down and look down their noses at the junior members. We have an issue retaining staff at that level. Some of the lawyers in out team give it the big I am. One person in particular thinks she's special. She's a condescending cow and the boss of her team seems to let it go.

I said that we need to tackle mistakes by asking why it happened and what we can do to make sure it doesn't happen again, rather than concentrating on giving someone a public bollocking.

We didn't name any names but she knew we were talking about her. She made it even worse by trying to argue that junior members of staff hide their mistakes and don't speak out.

As I pointed out, if people think they're going to get a bollocking, they won't have the confidence to speak out when they do something wrong.

Our business unit director was there and heard the whole thing. Then she told us about some members of staff telling her they don't want to come into work some mornings because of the way they get treated. One ex paralegal said she no longer noticed people talking down to her as it was so usual.

I got an email later on from the director thanking me and the other bloke for airing the issue.

So either I've done well or me and the other guy are marked as militant commies.

The accountant I have used for 9 years, her son had been punched in a bar, shattered his nose and eye sockets, cheeks and a half round in his skull above his nose. Total mess. She showed me the 3D scans pre & post op. I didn’t know it was possible to get that much metal in one head. He can’t taste or smell any more, and he’s dealing with PTSD. He’s 23. Poor fecker. Put my own problems in a bit of perspective.
Jeez poor fella. Can't believe we allow these people to function in our world. They are thugs. Hope the guy recovers quickly but someyhing tells me there isn't a quick solution

Just had a Facebook memory remind me that 3 years ago today I met Kwacky and Frankie for the first time. Kwacky on his Z1000SX and Frankie on his noble BMW-steed.
