This a good thing, right Jack?? Doctor's orders to drop weight post heart-attack, right weight for your height, etc.??
I expect you'll have had a massive change in your diet....or at least, most people do after a heart-attack or infarction...??

Thats pretty much it , I was told to cut down on fats sugar salt and reduce cholesterol , however turns out after the blood work was done post op that my cholesterol and fats aren't overly high , just above average apparently , so its probably smoking thats the main cause . If I can reduce the risk by being generally fitter then I have to try . Giving up smoking I am having trouble with , Ive cut down to 5 or 6 a day about half what it was and about 1/4 of what it used to be back in the 90's.

Giving up is tough. The addiction to nicotine it's broken in just over 24 hours, the habit is much harder to break out of.

There are a few tips I was given if your interested.

Well, you're having trouble with it because you're not giving up, you're only cutting down....and you're probably not even enjoying the cigarettes that you do smoke either, because you know there's a "limit" on them.
Don't get me wrong...any improvement is better than nothing & you're down to half of what you were...BUT!---if you broke both your legs & the doctor only put one of them in a cast..../

I've never smoked, would begrudge my hard-earned going up in smoke before my eyes.
However a good friend of mine had smoked since he was about 13 iirc. With the birth of his first born he was desperate to quit, but utterly addicted.
He tried all the usual approaches, nothing worked for long for him.
Eventually he went to a hypnotist.
Oh how we took the piss.. (including my pointing out that it was even more a waste of money than his addiction).

He's never even wanted to have a drag since (so he says, anyway). Must be over 20 years now.!

As I pointed out, not a personal recommendation. However most definitely a first hand observation fwiw.

Hth.

to be honest I don't drink. Only times I used to drink was excessively and I'd get so drunk I'd be crawling along the floor ,I can't do a social drink so decided that's it for me a handful of years ago

Yesterday I had a bowl of crunchy nut
x2 slices of toast with crunchy peanut butter
Chicken and ham slice
Pizza with chicken wings

I'm on holiday

It's so tough I sympathise.. I am 16 months but used a vape as. a quit aid .. OH still smokes even though he had a heart attack in his early 20's... now has an ICD fitted (on number 2 now)

I could go back to it in a blink of an eye but somehow manage to not give in, funnily enough I'm Ok when I have a nice glass of wine... feet up , vape and a few glasses of Malbec and it never enters my head

But doesn't the vaping replace the smoking? I presume its got nicotine in it?

PS. Whoever said you break the nicotine addiction after 24 hours has clearly never smoked.

Well it does to a certain extent.. I was vaping on 18 mg at first, now only 3mg or 0 ..I never know which liquid is what .

as I buy both.

At least I'm not inhaling all that rubbish from smoke..just vapour now .

Nicotine is the addiction and that in itself isn't harmful, from 35 -40 a day for 40 years it is far better . Trouble is apart from not coughing I have no other benefits ,, still don't seem to have anymore money and was hoping for a bit of weight gain but that didn't happen either

I do miss them terribly though and when OH lights up it can be tempting.. we haven't smoked indoors for years but still love the smell wafting through the window

That initial smell of a cigarette seems to set off my smoking triggers.

That said, fags now all seem to smell the same. When I was a smoker different brands smelt and tasted different.

I might take up the pipe :)

I still enjoy cigarettes ....there was a time several years ago, when I had my hip replaced, when I hadn't had a smoke in almost a week....fell right back into it - but like I say, I still enjoy it. Your chances of quitting something you like are slim-to-none. Quitting alcohol was hard enough, and I HATED alcohol (but drank anyway).
