I'd rather limit trucks to the inside lane. No overtaking allowed. Much more sensible IMO.

Exactly, having driven in countries where that's the case it seems the drivers of heavy vehicles are far less aggressive and intolerant of cars. However those same countries also have decent facilities for overnight stops for truck drivers so it's more of a perception issue in the UK, truck drivers are treated badly so they drive badly. Just my pov, hope I'm wrong btw.C00kiemonster wrote:I'd rather limit trucks to the inside lane. No overtaking allowed. Much more sensible IMO.

When I'm commuting I feel much safer around HGVs. Generally they're much better drivers, they give me room if they can and a lot more courteous than car drivers. I've never had a truck driver block me.

Re: How not to leave the motorway....
I've actually got my Heavy Rigid licence (in NZ) and did a bit of driving while in the Air Force. It opened my eyes up to how to behave around trucks. The worst trick cars do is as you slowly gear down coming up to a stop, they decide to jump in the gap ahead of you and shorten your stopping distance. I was so tempted to rear end a few cars, albit gently, but being in a military vehicle it wasn't the done thing.
The other thing I learnt, and it's especially important on a bike, is make sure you can see the drivers face in his side mirror, if you can't, it's highly likely he (or she) can't see you.
