More Big Brother stuff

"A US company has developed a way to monitor entire neighbourhoods, using a technology originally developed for the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But while police forces are excited by the prospect of getting access to the tech, privacy campaigners see it as a threat to citizens' constitutional rights. "
I guess it's only a matter of time before remote controlled cameras are flown to watch what we're up to. Imagine being on a ride out and a small drone is recording our speeds?

I wouldn't be surprised if we see police drones within 5 years.
Watch that video of the Porsche/McLaren/Superleggera i posted up. The start of that is filmed by a drone.

......or insurers insisting on black boxes. I don't think that is far away either.

Re: More Big Brother stuff
The info in modern cars is boggling. The new BMWs have so much information in them that your dealer will call you before you get a problem. You can call a number and get someone to remotely open your car.
At present BMW refuse to say what they monitor. They also refuse to give any data to the police.
Duke, a lot of insurance companies do offer black boxes for drivers. It's a good way for young drivers to reduce their premiums. I think it's a good idea. If the driver knows his insurance price is determined by how he or she drives then hopefully it will make them think about their driving.

The problem the courts will have is validating the accuracy of any measurement, all speed cameras and speed guns have to be calibrated to be admissible in court.
When they do, we're fecked!

The Courts can take into account any data obtained. It's up to the Judge how much weight that evidence carries. The experts normally play it safe by giving a range of speeds and distances. Any information from a car computer could be used to back up or discount that exert's opinion.

Re: More Big Brother stuff
Problem I see is using these devices over roads or built up areas. It would only take one drone to fail and injure someone or created a genuine and serious risk of harm to the general public for them to be removed from any future service.

Re: More Big Brother stuff
Hmmmm.....re. the info in cars...and for the record, I don't have much of an opinion either way.
There was a case a few years ago in Detroit or Chicago, where a man ran down a child....he claimed to have been driving at 25-35mph....so in or around the posted limit.
The car's computer showed that his airbag had deployed at approx. 125mph....guess who's in jail??

Re: More Big Brother stuff
Tbh I don't think you would need the cars computer info to verify the car was travelling at 125 mph. The injury's sustained and the length of skid marks would verify the car was travelling at excessive speed.

Re: More Big Brother stuff
I had a Barnett crossbow when I was kid till my mum found it and went mental. Bought it of a mate at school who got it in a second hand shop. Looking back as a responsible adult it was a stupid purchase however I'm confident it would knock out drones easily, haha.D41 wrote:Frickin' Barnet Diablo, you wannabe!!Blade wrote:Do you reckon a black widow catapult could take a drone out ????

Re: More Big Brother stuff
We used to make our own cats.....they were frickin' lethal....you just bought the pieces from the local sports shop, who would verify that you were 16 or whatever....wire them up, and off you went.
Does anyone here know what "pleg" is???
