Wonder how many people are just doing it for the 'Facebook likes'? Bet half the people don't even donate!

Figures seem to suggest otherwise.

Its a bit of fun that costs nowt and hopefully the money raised will be used usefully.

I donated, but I won't be putting a bucket of ice over my head. But if it moves more people to give then it's a good idea. I don't do peer pressure, which is basically how it works.

That’s right, only 27% of donations actually go towards research! Over $1.9 million a year goes towards paying the salaries of individuals who work for the ALSA and nearly $4 million goes towards fund raising. Meaning they spend donation money, in hopes of raising more donations!

That's the idea. Either you donate or you throw the bucket of ice water over your head.

They are like most bigger organisations who are charity or member funded. Too comfortable and the money is too tempting for those inside. That's a big salary bill....

That's another issue altogether, Kwacky.

You could point the same finger at most of the big UK charities too, including the cancer charities. Children in Need has some of the biggest admin costs of all. Once they get to a certain size they are little more than big business doing some good work.

Ah. So those who have done the bucket thing are tight wads then? :x

The cancer charities are the worst of the lot. Most of them are funded by public donations. They then use that money to create drugs which the NHS can barely afford.

If I donated each time I was asked to I wouldn't be able to house and feed my family.

I was thinking more of the cancer care charities. A third of Macmillan's income is spent on fund raising. it's a dilemma for sure but the bigger they get there is no doubt they lose some of the focus they have.

Always controversial me!!!
I won't do it and I haven't donated either.

All my charitable donation goes to animal welfare and that's it. It may make me a really bad person, but I believe the big charities use the money unwisely. That's why I don't donate to RSPCA.

Mine goes to dogs trust and the smaller local ones .

I feel that research companies are billion pound/dollar enterprises linked to pharmaceutical companies

Now you can throw stones at me and bury me alive !!!

I agree bb, I donate to various wildlife charities but like you would not donate to the RSPCA, ive heard some horror stories from them with regards to their antiquated views on reptiles and reptile keeping, although back on track I have now been nominated 3 times, im thinking ill just do it to stop people tagging me in statuses
