Out of date food

Would you go to a cafe which sells out of date food?

I think it's a good idea. There's too much food wastage in this country.

Id go, to be honest me and the Mrs are pretty good with food we waste very little, as soon as we buy food like meat we seperate it all into freezer backs and freeze indvidually so we only get out what we need, mainly coz she is veggie so only ever need half as much. oh and coz were poor we cant afford to waste it lol!

I hate seeing food go to waste. It's a bugbear of mine. There's no need for it. Anything we don't use or eat goes into the compost.

To be honest as long as it dont taste funny I eat it. I rarely look at the label anyway.

It's an easy answer for me no !! I'm sorry but I'm a fecker for throwing things away that most people would eat and it causes a lot of arguments in our house as the wife is a bit more laid back about it.

Sod it, if it doesn't smell funny and looks ok I'll eat it, I hate wastage. I'm a bit wary of raw chicken, but that's about it.

Friends of ours ran several food businesses and they're even more laid back about it than I am.

Don't get me wrong I know for a fact that I eat out of date stuff as the wife does most the cooking so I wouldn't know if it is or isn't out of date it's when I go to make myself something to eat the first thing I do is look at the date, maybe I should just stay away from the fridge.

There are 'Sell by' and 'Use by ' dates which are not the same thing.

I agree with Deegee, just be careful with things like chicken and cooked rice. I'm more worried about the shite they put in processed food than eating food that's going off.

i visit a lot of processed food factorys,it puts you off anything packaged for life it really is that bad

Company I worked for in the late 80's had a 6 monthly job at a pie manufacturers, the job they did put them right by where the "chicken" for the chicken & ham pies was loaded into the system. One old boy was physically sick outside, the others swore off pies for life. So it sounds very similar to Perkles experiences.

On a different note re "best before" dates, why does mineral water have a date? It's been in the ground for thousands of years, why is being in a bottle shorten its life? Unless there's something fishy about the plastic used in the bottle itself....

All food has to have a use by date by law.

So water does as well and you are right about plastic bottles, they have a limited lifespan too before they start leaching into the water.
