Deeply sad news from the Isle of Man TT tonight. TycoBMW rider, Dan Kneen, crashed tonight during practice at Churchtown. Paramedics treated him at the scene but tragically he succumbed to his injuries sustained. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies go to his family.

Balls :(

He was only 30.

I believe there was also a second incident requiring an air ambulance as another rider collided with the course car attending to the Dan Kneen accident.

Not sure what happened but hop the guy is OK.

The second accident should never have happened , the riders were sent back to the pits , the wrong way round the circuit , not in itself unusual or dangerous , except when there are still emergency vehicles traveling to the incident in the opposite direction . That is a failure by either the marshals or race control .

The rider involved in the course car incident was Steve Mercer , he has been flown to Liverpool to further assess his injuries .

Gutting news about Dan, on a personal level the rider that hit the course car afterwards as Jack said is Steve Mercer who is someone I have a lot of mutual friends with and met a few times and my old race team provided his bikes at the TT a few times so that one has hit really close to home. Fingers crossed for him but not heard much yet.

A statement issued by Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson.

Following the collision which involved the Course Inspection Car and a rider during Wednesday evening’s Superbike Qualifying session, the following procedure will now take place with immediate effect:

A Red Flag instruction will apply to the entire TT Mountain Course irrespective of where that incident has occurred. There will be no movement on the TT Mountain Course by any rider until the incident has been cleared, regardless of how long that incident may take to clear.

The riders will only be permitted to move in Course direction under the control of Travelling Marshals at the front and rear. There will no longer be any movement of riders in the wrong Course direction.
