Cal Crutchlow was left to ponder what could have been as he saw a debut podium finish with Ducati agonisingly slip through his grasp at the Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island.

I like Cal but he does seem to favour the 'all or nothing' approach to racing.

I can be critical of the bloke but I don't think Sunday was his fault. He had no warning. The bike looked like someone pulled it away from him.

Lots of other riders who were using the asymetric front tyre had similar crashes in fre practice on the same section of track too.

Exactly why he shouldn't have been pushing it so hard! I know racers race etc but he was trying to close a near 6 second gap to Rossi of all people in two laps on a tyre that had been spitting people off regularly. Pretty sure Marquez was on same tyre and had a similar crash. I just felt in that situation he made a horrible choice. That second place would have been a great result for him and Ducati.

Shame he didn't just get his head down and graft earlier in the season. He would have still been on a factory bike then.

He is on a factory RCV in a satellite team next year so he might have come out on top only time will tell I guess.

Have Ducati had to pay him off ????

The Ducati is beating it right now though, Blade and its likely it will be better still next year.

I was also told at the weekend that Crutchlow was not first choice Brit for the LCR bike and that he is probably riding for nothing next year.
