The lack of police makes the odds of getting caught much lower , if they are caught the sentences are ridiculously light and prison is no longer a deterrent . I see residents of some of the more affluent areas of London are looking into hiring private security as they feel the police can no longer protect them or their property .

Jack...realistically I don't think prison is ever much of a deterrent. It's no different from taking a bike up to triple-digit speeds.....the consequences of falling off are unimaginable & so they stay unimagined.
Recidivism rates only back this up.....I forget the exact stats, but if memory serves it's only something like 4-5% of convicted criminals ever get their sh#t together.....and that's after @ 3 convictions......convictions mind you, not offences that went unpunished.

I might be off a tad on those figures as it's been a while since I've looked. But nonetheless the numbers are pretty daunting.

Which is precisely what this Government want people to do.

'You want law and order then pay for it yourself.'

To be fair. I'd rather have a private lot who answer to no-one than pay for a public owned old bill who cant even push someone over without it being filmed and then posted onto social media and then not actually sorting the scum bag out!

So you're happy to have people who answer to no-one? So they can do what they like, to who they like, when they like?

Thug life mate!! I dont mean it as literal as that. But we do need a stronger force than what is offered nowadays. Police are stuck behind desks, that's not policing. I'd rather have a group patrolling who when they see or get s report of a crime will sort the scum out. We don't need to know how they do it just that they won't be doing it again.

Those are called vigilantes, Ross. They're not a very good idea. At the very best you'd end up with people who shouldn't and/or can't be cops, trying to be cops.

The government has slashed the number of police, there are no police to patrol the streets - that's the issue.

I'll vote for the mafia then. Any scumbags come into our town will be tied up dunked in and out of icy bucket and have the privilege to get their fingers and toes broken one by one until they admit their wrong doings and then killed and chucked into the lake!

I went to the police station the other week, I got chatting to a copper and it was scary the state they are in. I was shocked at how little they really have on the job at one time. She said if something happened to her it could take up to 30 mins for another police officer to respond to her calls. That's just not on

Blame the politicians making the decision to slash police. They are the **** encouraging crime and making it pay.

The cynic in me wonders is the state making money from crime? Barrister, crime agencies, shares in private secuirty companies, security contracts, etc??????

On topic just heard on morning tv news, 1/3 of neighbourhood Police have been axed in the last 3 year's.

I do believe in only spending what you have, and living within in your means and states must follow this simple approach also as contious lending is never the best answer imo. But I do believe regards the Police and NHS cuts have been to hard and to fast and have impacted in the ability of these services to deliver an acceptable standard of service.

May is talking about giving £4billion extra aid money to African countries. We already send over £13 billion a year overseas.

It might be selfish but I think while we're strapped for cash we should postpone foreign aid and spend it here in the UK on police, schools and hospitals.

Fully agree and I'm sure most other people would too. Seems crazy.

We should start a petition (blush)

'Foreign aid' is more often than not a bribe to get business.
