6th - 10th June 2018 - European Tour

Post by Kwacky »

Duke and I will he heading over to France again this summer. Cookie will be joining us for a couple of days.

It's the usual format - nothing is set in stone, relaxed pace, stop off at places we like the look off and find somewhere in the evening that sells food and booze.

At the moment the rough plan is:-

On the Tuesday night (5th) those of us too far away to head there in the morning will head south towards Calais and stop off around that way.

Wednesday 6th Chunnel it then ride on to Metz

Thursday Metz to Colmar

Friday Colmar to Troyes

Saturday Troyes to Calais or somewhere near there. We can then stop over Saturday night close to Calais and head back on the Sunday. Ypres was nice last year.

Some big miles there,
unfortunately that's one of my work standby weeks,
but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you with the weather.

If you could get down to Nurbergring too I could come along cos if I go that way I'd like to do the famous track too.

I believe it was a coolant spill and rumour has it, it was the end of the day and the Marshall in that location and got off early so no warning flags.

Calais to Metz is a decent day's ride so we could do that by keeping off the toll roads but sticking to the main roads. Its a 300 mile ride buts still comfortable if we get an early train across the Channel.

Metz to Basel is only about 170 miles and there are some cracking roads through the Vosges region, so we could take any easy day riding some great roads stopping as and when we wish.

The only day we have booked up for in the past is the first night in the UK and the first night in France.

Think we would need to book up in Metz as its a fair ride down there for one day.

After that we can make it up as we go along.

Shall i provisionally reserve this hotel for the first night? Its in the centre of Metz and has secure parking. £38 per person for the night. It can be cancelled for free.

It does appear to be a place short on hotels with any character.
