Well that was Ace, rode some great roads, saw some great sites all spent with my slapper buds. Thanks Duke for leading the way. I will be sorting out my trip in pictures in due course, and will leave a write up to those who can do a better job. I will say riding the twisties in the mountains, in the driving rain with no front brakes was an experience to say the least.... a lot more fun the next day with brakes with the sun out 8)
So with Leigh's help we arrived at the bike shop first thing, which had my pads in stock and then stuck my bike on the ramp, the guy rolled over the tool chest and let me get on with it. Not bad scenery in the place either :) Happy days 8)
Looking forward to 2019's adventure, same again? suites you (y)

Reading the Lille hotel reviews:

Staff were great. Area is a little sketchy - we were walking back from the town centre early evening, and gangs were hanging around dealing drugs on the street next to the one the hotel is on - not great with a young child in a pram.

:D :D

No shit sherlock.

Frankie will have forgotten that already.

I had a great time and a trip like this is what you make of it. We had all weathers, all types of roads and some difficulties along the way, but thats what you remember and cherish when you come through them.

Frankie's front brakes failed on the way out of Metz (not that we knew at that point, we just kept pushing on :D ) and it turned out he'd forgotten to change the pads and therefore they were non existent. (told you we wouldnt let you get away with that Frankie :D ) After much pisstaking and looking at options we decided to head to Colmar.

Kudos to Frankie as he kept going with his back brake and engine braking, so those track days have given him some skills 8)

He managed to find a motorcycle shop in Colmar on the interwebs so first thing in the morning Frankie and I went over and they were brilliant. Looked at his bike, looked up the parts, found them on the shelves and gave him a ramp, tools and assistance. They only charged him for the pads and we were in and out the shop with a sorted bike in about 45 mins. Result. The people here in France are usually very kind and it was nice to show how good it can be. I have one of his pads, so i'll sort a pic out - it's terrifying.

We were back to the hotel within an hour of so. We then got on with things and got cracking on some fantastic roads outside Colmar in the Vosges mountains - amazing. I havent taken any pics but Frankie and the boys did, so they will be along with those when they have time, but they were awesome. Perfection in some ways.

Then it rained. OMG did it rain. Worst rain i think i've ridden in. Mud coming down the slopes of the mountains onto the roads, lid steamed up, glasses steamed up, no grip. I was following Duke and his brake light in the end :D

We missed a turn, stopped to wait and change direction - it was getting really tough now. Then a French worker (from nowhere!) pitches up and tells me in French there is a shelter 1km down the mountain, so we get going down and find it - big enough for the bikes, us and our kit. Dont know how we would have fared without it - luck was defo on our side. Right place, right person to talk to, right time. It was biblical out there.

The following two days were dry - brilliant sunshine, winding roads and some good speed at times too.

Banter in the evenings, totty watching, good food and great company. Loved it.

Thanks to Duke for his leading and routes, Frankie for noticing how good France can be and Kwacky for putting up with my snoring - sorry mate.
