Not a great mile muncher if that's what you're looking for, but great for nipping around on. My mate runs one and it's pretty bullet proof, he's dropped it a far bit green laning and it's stood up very well.

I am looking for a mile muncher with offroad capabilities.

Others being thought of at the moment are:

BMW F800GS Adventure
Triumph 800 XC

Personally I'd rule out the singles then. I've done a few thousand miles around Europe on one and they run out of steam very quickly at motorway speeds and get very vibey.

That said I've not ridden a modern one so might be worth a test ride.

I think the BMW or Tiger would be a better bet.

Like the previous posts, if I was to go with that option I'd consider the Tiger or the BMW 800GS first

I think the Tenere is fugly in comparison ... the only one of seen on the road was a beige colour, it'd got no shape :(

You know my opinion on my tiger, put it this way, I am lucky enough to have two great bikes, if I was forced to let one go and keep one the S1000rr would go and the Tiger 800xc would stay at this moment in time.

It is plenty quick enough to not get left behind, it handles corners with the best of them, it will do off road, but in my opinion a second set of wheels with knobblies is the best solution which I am considering for winter months anyway, as the rubber I have on now does not like wet roads let alone off road ha ha, just put mine through its first mot and still I smile when I jump on her.

Oh yeah and she wheelies good, now I am managing to get across the whole junction and them some on the back wheel ha ha ha ha ;) but it really is a comfy all round bike. Even the IOM trips I get torn which one to take, but the ride up to Liverpool sways me toward the tiger, and even when we were all hooning around the island I was never far away from the action, except on the longer stretches.

The bmws are refined and people love them, however I don't warm to these models myself, the tiger just has a little more character IMO.

It's all down to personnel taste, the tiger has proved a decent piece of kit and it's the only one I have owned hence my bias opinion.
Is this instead of your S1 or as well as ?

If you do fancy a Tiger, I believe "a certain someone" from Cote d'Essex may not take too much persuading to part with his currently.
