Socket head bolts

Post by Stew »

Ive been thinking of replacing all the bolts on my Z650 with stainless socket head bolts, not sure how its goes though with bolts needing to be torqued , A2 seems to be a popular choice but is there an alternative maybe stronger option or is A2 ok ?
Cheers

If you're worried about it, A4 is slightly stronger and more corrosion resistant, it's used more in marine applications, but A2 has several grades within it strength-wise as well. Have a read through the link, it might help.

I'd find out what Gilles use and then don't use that!

Yeah they have a certain reputation.

Go to some one like probolt or race bolt Stew they will ensure you have the correct grade.

Cheers guys, bit lazy of me to ask when I could have just done the research myself, the race bolt stuff seems ok, Pro bolt just seems extortionate but theyre both quality products I guess, got a couple of hundred to spend on the Z650 and need new coils first and what's left over for a bit of bling :)

The ones they supply on the rear sets use a smaller allen key than standard and almost impossible to undo without stripping the head. Every single bolt on mine is bu66ered!

Gilles unadjustable adjustable rear sets!

Could you get the bolts out by drilling and using an easy out Monty as then you could replace them with something of better quality.

Recon they'd come out with a desert spoon to be honest Blade as they seem to be made of cheese! Just not got around to it

Maybe change them sooner rather than later if there that bad Monty.

I had a screw work loose on my rearsets when out on a ride and lost the toe peg for the gear change which made getting home awkward. I now have them all loctited in place.
