Is the solar production connected to the grid in anyway?

Depends on the system. Mine is setup to use grid only when there is a deficit, otherwise it is stored or used.

You can push power to the grid (with a contract) and you are paid for doing so, but I think it's best to keep it as the tariffs for pushing power to the grid are not great now. Plus I know where my energy comes from (the sun).

What battery storage system are you using?

We get terrible rebates on solar I export back to the network. Pay 28c/KW for usage and get 11c/KW for export. I’d love a battery bank, but don’t feel it’s economical viable here atm.

I have a SolaX inverter and 7kwh battery.

Battery makes a huge difference. This system is a hybrid inverter and allows use of power from solar and battery when the grid goes down too. I'm never without power.
