Timber .....

Post by D6Nutz »

Well it had to happen at some point...

Was dropping the wheels out to take them down to get the tyres fitted tomorrow, and made a stupid noob mistake..

Cracked the axle nuts, and the bolts on the rear calliper, and got the bike in the shed and up on the paddock stands, Whipped the rear wheel out in no time at all and moved onto the front. Got the axle out with ease, but then realised that I had rushed and forgotten to take the callipers off. Started trying to undo the bolts and my second and, what prooved to be the fatal error showed it's head. I'd forgotten to slacken of the bolts before putting the bike on the stand.

With no rear wheel and the axle out of the front I decided to try and crack the bolts on the stand. I know they where properly torqued as it was only serviced recently... This is where it went very very wrong. I don't know quite what happened next, but there was a loud cracking noise and the next thing I knew was the bike as pinning me against the desk !

Fortunately Mrs Nutz came running to the rescue and help me get the bike back upright. I then had to kind of balance it on the stands somehow and find some assistance to get it all back how it should be.. The rear paddock stand seems to have collapsed, and the front one is looking a little bent. As I have no choice the bike is up on them and the wheels are out, but I am buying a new pair of stands very soon.

Amazingly the bike has escaped unscathed, there is not a mark on it. Not quite so sure about me though..

I'm feeling a bit sore now. My left shoulder took a bit of a hit.

I'm glad I got folding leavers. Also glad I carry a bit of padding as that seems to have saved the bike.

I do like the abba stands, they're just a little pricy.

As the bike is okay, and you're not too badly damaged, does that mean we can laugh at you now?

To be fair I'm amazed it's taken this long.

Glad your ok and it's a good job someone was around!

Get an abba. Best thing you will buy for servicing your bike. I don't know what I'd do without mine. They are worth the money.

I don't agree, my ABBA stand is an expensive ornament that gets in the way in the garage.

There you go mate, buy godzilla's all you need is the frame pin/adaptor, if the Beemer one does not fit yours, I I did that with mine when changed from the 675.

That's panic time, bike laying on you and needing mrs Nutz to get you out of a jam (you know she's not going to forget that don't you? (giggle) ). Anyway glad you're ok and your bike hasn't suffered any nasties either.

Btw I don't like the Abba stands either, far rather have a couple of Harris stands, with the front being a "stem pin" style. Each to their own I guess.

Not nice when that happens. Glad you and bike survived without too much trauma.

Similar happened to me yesterday except the 748 ended up leaning against the garage wall from the r/h bar. Looked kind of cool in a strange way. :D

Just thinking about stands.. As I've got to park the bike tight up against a wall I'm not sure that an abba stand will work for me.

As it is I need to put the bike up on the rear stand and then lift / slide it over against the wall. This is why I was really interested in the paddock stand with the wheels on it.

Perhaps a 1jac stand is the way forward for you D6Nutz. There's been a bit of discussion about them at 675.cc in case you think you may be interested.: http://www.675.cc/675/viewtopic.php?f=5 ... 86#p264986" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
