The Tiger 800 will be replaced next week by a new 900 version. No idea why they are doing it after all the shows.

Cant quite understand why the new S1000XR doesn't have the new shift cam engine, I would gave thought it was perfect for that.

Shiftcam is a big miss from the XR I agree. Maybe it will be rolled out later and there holding it back for now to drip feed us.

I had a chat with my local friendly BMW salesman today,
F900XR is due at the end of Q1, so late February / early March is when he is expecting one for demo rides.

S1000XR is due towards the end of Q2 so May / June, and does have the shift cam engine, they had to widen the frame to fit the new engine but it is tuned for smoothness, mid range torque and economy. Without loosing the top end scream that so, so nearly made me buy one of the current model, I was not overly keen on the tingly vibes but they have been working on it, even fitting longer gear ratios in 5/6 to reduce revs at cruising speeds.

From what I read there were also a few teathing issues with the shiftcam engine so they decided to wait until they where ironed out before releasing it.

As for the vibes, yeah I do get a little buzz at about 5k. Annoyingly that is at about 70mph in 6th, so the solution is not to ride at 70 in 6th. Other fixes include heavier bar ends, tyres, and re-torquing the engine bolts. IMO different gearing will only move the issue to a different point of the rev range. Anyway, after a couple of big twins the beema is smooth as glass

That said, I would bet money on my next bike being either the latest R or XR.

That's a thing with my KTM, it vibrates like a concrete mixer with some half bricks in it but not at light throttle while cruising, I find it comfortable with no numbness even after a 300+ mile day... It's not a tingling vibration.
The XR that I tested was used one, one of the early bikes. I need a longer test ride...

Every road on that vid all local. he was lucky not to be in the way where he parked up for his walk around! Muppet! there is a car park 100 yards down the road. Nice bike. dont think I will be rushing to go and get one.

BMW Wolverhampton have posted on Facebook that the demo bikes are available from 14th Feb. So either they were letting a select customer or two using it before or the staff were using it to get the miles on it for the first service.

Be interested to know what you think of it. From everything I've heard I'm kind of expecting it to be a little agrecultural, but like farmer in a suit.

It is fairly basic. It's 100bhp parallel twin. He told me that they've changed the position of the crankshaft so it sounds more like a V twin.

At sub £10k it's not going to be MV standard.

I see BMW have increased their warranty period to 3 years.

It's based of the 850 GS. I suppose I've just been spoiled with the S series spec, the F series just isn't as refined.
