BMW F900xr

I liked the look of this bike at the NEC. Good seat position, decent weight and power figures, very well priced, loads of kit. My only concern is the small size of the tank, which seems to be a common theme recently with new bikes.

I'm working from home more now so the miles are dropping and the Versys is coming up to 3 yeras old.

They're in the dealers from Feb so I've registered my interest for a test ride. If it's any good it could replace the Versys. If it's really good then it could replace both the Versys and the Africa Twin.

This is a bike I'm quite interested in as well, maybe not now but in a couple of years when the new model gremlins have shaken out.

I agree, the tank is quite small. But the are claiming over 60mpg and the parallel twin in the GS was easily over 50mpg on the display (even with my riding)

15.5 litres isnt bad - depends on mpg i guess.

Whats the versys tank size and range?

They do call it usable tank range. If the bike does 60mpg you are talking over 150 miles.

When the Multi was fully fuelled you could feel all the weight of that fuel.

How do you reckon the AT feels with 25l in it?

It is one of the reasons I sold the Multi. Heaving it off the side stand was sometimes not easy and not fun.

I think the BMW GS Adventure and Multi Enduro are something like 33 litres.

The S3 tank is small and this worried me initally, but as the MPG is good the range is not too bad.

I guess if your commuting and not thrashing the bike the quoted 60 mpg may be possible and hopefully the range would then be acceptable.

BMW now do a 3 year warranty on new motorcycles so that would be a good option on a commuter workhorse imo.

My XR is supposedly a 20l tank, but I've never got much more that 17l in at a time. Probably makes a 3l reserve that the trip computer doesn't tell you about.

Filled up this morning with less than 30 miles remaining on the trip, had only done 140 miles since last filling up downside of commuting on country lanes I guess

I've filed up at 0miles on the range, and still not got in what the tank says it should hold.

60+ mpg is good. I get about 52.6 commuting.

I spoke to the dealer. The bikes are due to start arriving mid March, all being well. He's not got a date for a demo bike yet but he'll call me when he knows some more.

He's sold 6 already.

I'll take a look at the Tiger 900 as well when that's out.

You know I like my beemers, however I have a feeling that the Tiger is going to be good, defo worth a ride on both, I do like the triple engine. over the twins.

Yep, I'm a triple fan as well, but the Versys and the Africa Twin are both parallel twins, which the F900 Is, so I might find it easier to switch to the Beemer.

We'll see.

I just asked my mate about the Tiger 900 - no dealer dates yet.

Tiger 900 is released at the factory on 3 December.

One of the babes on the Triumph stand asked if I would be interested in going into a draw for ticket to attend after I told I bought the Street in the summer.

Dont know much about this sector but I'm sure the Beemer will be very good, probably too good, where as that big triple will be full of sole and character. Triumph are producing some very good motorcycles these days.

And that's why God invented the test ride.

Triumph always make bikes with really good handling. Plus there's something special about a triple howl.

But the BMW is very well priced (£9,500) and as mentioned I like a parallel twin. I suspect that the Tiger will be about £2k more.

BMW have upped the warranty to 3 years recently and we know how well they look after customers. I get on well with one of the salesmen at my local BMW dealer so I might get a couple of tests in the spring. I would probably be looking more at the 1000XR and 1250RS though, the warp factor of the KTM is very entertaining Would be rude not to try the 900 though

I might swing by the Triumph dealer, at least have a look at the tiger 900...

Had a look at the Tiger 800 and XR900 yesterday and looks wise the Beemer looks better than the triple imo.

I wouldnt say the XR900 is a great looker but the Triumph looked busy and unfinished in parts imo.

The adventure bike that did impress me was the S1000XR, very nice update. Always been a fantastic adventure type bike but now it looks good where as the older XR looked messy and unfinished imo. Style wise the gen2 bike is a night and day improvement and I'm sure dynamically it's made some progress too
