Help please (adhesive for engine protection)

Post by Frankie »

Ok now I have the track bike back in the cave it is time for some tlc, one of the jobs amongst many is checking the engine bolts. Always makes me laugh how low the Nm is for the engine, anyway to get to them I have to remove the protection on the casing. This is the first time I have removed them and they have been glued on!

I have not got a clue what has been used, but seems to be rubbery glue....never seen it before.

So my question is what do you suggest to do the job, that will stick and take the heat from the engine.
Many thanks :)

Right back to the calliper cleaning before the new stopie pads go in lol

Fwiw I use General purpose Silicon behind my GB casing protectors.
It's more to prevent damp & detritus being trapped there, and causing the alloy casing to corrode than anything else.

It could be a polyurethane sealant like stickaflex or Tiger Seal (really good stuff) i put a fender extender on with it and it never came off.

My first course of action would be to go straight onto loctite's website and see what they have... can't offer anymore advice than that sorry

Cheers guys, all my protection has been bolted prior to this, , it threw me when I had to pull it off to get to the bolts.
Seems to be some sort of silicone, I was just concerned about the heat.
I do love the sound of my system on the little gixer, so deep and angry lol

Thanks for your input :)

Silicone handles heat well. My choice would be some sikaflex. Check the temp range on the back, you’ll be surprised!!

Hope you've managed to do these jobs Frankie. Literally have never heard of glue being used to crash protection to be honest! I always thought it was the bolts that kept them on

If you’re struggling look out for a construction adhesive called CT1, I’ve not found anything stronger, but it’s a bitch to get off.
