Single side swing arms have no alignment adjusters so if it is out of line it must mean a worn bearing.

It should give you an idea if it's something that you fancy tackling or if you want to leave it to a garage.

It's riding fine and the noise has all but gone. I'm fairly sure there is an issue with either the bearing, chain alignment, the chain, or all of the above.

But, I'm going to bury my head in the sand and my wallet in the freezer. As I'm thinking of getting shot in the near future I don't think it's worth spending the money.

You can easily check for frozen links in the chain and general chain condition. Same too for sprockets.

A bearing is also cheap enough to replace and do yourself - I replaced all 3 on my ninja for £60 and it makes a great difference to the bike when they are starting to wear out.

Even if you get rid of the bike at the end of the year, if you can spare £60 for a bearing (almost certainly less) it's worth it

I would definitely remove the wheel and if you can slacken the chain off and remove from the sprocket to isolate that from the argument even better.

Problem with SSSAs is if the bearing collapses it will write off the swing arm.

So it's time to draw a line under this thread, it's only been a few months ago hardly a long term review.

I've covered a smidge over 10k since the end of Feb, and somewhere between 7-8k on the Avon's.

What have I taken away from the experience?

The vfr is a very underated bike, it's very capable regardless of what you ask it to do. From popping to the shops, long distance commuting, and a blast with the lads, it does it all very well. The Avon's are insane and are no where near done! I reckon there is at least another couple of thousand left in the rear yet.

I've enjoyed owning it, and I'm sure the next owner will enjoy is as much as I have.

No, just the KTM. The vfr is going up for sale at the weekend, I've already got offers for the luggage.
