Dropped helmet.

Post by Cavetroll87 »

Probably a really stupid question as we all know the rule is you drop your lid, time for a new one but I forgot I'd put mine down on the table and left it there, Travis just pushed it off the table and it fell probably 2.5ft onto carpeted floor.

Opinions please, I'm really not sure I can afford a new one atm. Feeling like a duck for leaving it out with a 2 year old around.

Should be OK falling on the carpet with no head inside it.

Onto a carpet? I'd still use it.

Mine dropped off the bike onto the gravel drive - still use it.

Cheers guys, I think he's mocking me, he pushed my lid on the floor and then proceeded to wet himself and just look at me to tell me he did a wee despite constant asking.

Can I be honest and let you guys in on a secret.... being an adult sucks

Dropped from waist height.....fine.

Dropped from head height....be wary.

Someone told me that years ago as a general rule to go by & it stuck with me. I have no idea it it's true, but it sounds legit.

But with carpet down to cushion the fall, I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

Just don't crash.

On the plus side, if you do have a crash you might get brain damage and forget how to be an adult. ;)

The main issues with dropping a helmet is either compromising the outer shell integrity or compressing the impact obsorbant layer (polystyrene stuff). Neither of those are an issue in you case I don’t think, I’d still be using it.

But any crash I’ve had, wether the helmet had visible damage or not, I’ve cut the straps off the helmet and tossed it without question.

And as for your secret... not much of a secret!!! (lol)

But totally with you there, kids will test you and make you question your existence like nothing else. Someone told me when my first was born “you now have someone you will worry about daily for the rest of your life”. Pretty bang on.

I remember my mate dropping his lid from his tank on his bike. He picked it up, wiped it down and said 'nah that'll be fine!' Personally id still use one if it was on carpeted floor. I'd be wary if it was concrete matey
