Ok so I'm over in France driving a French car using French roads!!!. Now my question is what's with the road signs here?

Roads will randomly say 50KPH for what would be EASILY NATIONAL IN BRITAIN BUT not have any repeaters?

Is it normal to see 30KPH through little villages for speed humps only but rest of road is 50KPH? Or does it mean 30KPH the whole road?

Also whats up with a 50KPH sign for a small bend in the road?

Does a 50KPH sign with a black and white 'national like' background with a cross mean 'end of 50 go to National'?

80KPH seems a tad slow for some of these long A type roads, why is it so slow here?

'This is just for where we are right now (from Bordeaux airport to our local area which is Lacunuau Ocean where we are staying - unsure how to spell it)'. I cant speak for the rest of the country but im sure people here eg Cookie could send me the right info!!

For what i have seen it seems Britain does do right by us. Signs are plentiful, there's usually no reason why you wouldn't know what speed it is and road markings are clear.

However and its a BIG HOWEVER.....the roads are so well maintained here, a tad boring this end as they are very long and straight with speed limit changes for bends but nice

Only seen a couple of coppers here and 1 was standing by a market place and the other was driving around, do they stand or sit by side of road catching people speeding?

Apart from fact the hire companies charge you €200 admin fee on top on the speeding fine

Really if you are driving in a foreign country then its your responsibility to learn the road signs and limits before you drive.

Yes i agree duke. Just seems a tad strange with the 30s and 50s just asking for some wisdom.

Or as I did, give them one of your driving licenses and let your wife drive off around the corner.

Roads here in this part at least are nice and quiet, if we were in Bournemouth or some place in Britain it would be cramped up, sitting in traffic etc.

My partners parents drove from Britain right down to here and they said they only saw 10 cars on the motorway while in France but saw hundreds in Britain even when they left at 0330hrs...incredible to hear we are nice and busy over on our island even at such an early time! I know when i finish work early on a night shift I still see loads of lorries and cars down the motorway. Relaxed country!
