Took delivery of it this evening then had to teach an hour long lesson before having a proper look at it! Torture!

Just been out for a quick sptin - I don't trust myself to do more than a couple of miles tonight - I'm knackered!

I absolutely LOVE it! Not taken it past 5000rpm yet as I'm trying to be good with the run-in , but this was definitely the right bike for me right now! I'm hooked!

I'll try and work out how to do pics...

Looks fabulous Mr Fiend, & good to know you're pleased with your choice. Fwiw I have a little old CBR400 that I still have as a winter hack, and imho that sort of size is more than adequate for road riding. I actually prefer the smaller capacity machine, as it feels less "under exploited" when riding at a socially acceptable pace.

There is an eminent engineering guru on here, who I believe I recall has often proposed that engines may actually be better if treated less carefully.
Getting used to your bike before blatting it about, has got to be an excellent side effect though.

Mt apologies I've barely been on here for a couple of months. Started a new job at the beginning of October, and it's all been a bit crazy suddenly having a caseload again!

I've only been able to clock up 300 miles on the R3, but DAMN I'm absolutely loving it when I'm able to! I never thought I'd be comfortable in the rain, but I told myself that if I didn't get some rainy miles under my belt it would always be an issue. I'm starting to trust the bike a bit more in the corners. Beginning to feel less of a fraud!

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Thanks so much for all your support leading up to my test. I'll do my best to be a bit more active - and hopefully pop along to a couple of rides in the New Year. And probably buy a 650 at some point ... just like everyone told me I would.... But I wouldn't have trade this time with the R3 for anything. It's giving me much more confidence.

That's exactly why taking steps to bigger bikes works out so well. Well done to you to get those rainy miles in, many people will not want to ride in the rain but certainly not saying we haven't all been there

So what is on the shopping list when you decide to replace the R3?

That's a tricky one, Mr K - lots of thinking and making a nuisance of myself at showrooms to be done! Much more has opened up since I started being respectful of power rather than flat-out terrified of it!

Yamaha XSR700 - this was the bike I first fell in love with that made me do my CBT. But 830mm seat height is really pushing it for my short-arsedness
MT07 - a sensible choice, but the styling doesn't do anything for me
Ducati Scrambler - I like it a lot. Light, retro, ticks all my boxes. Probably not much fun on the motorway though, and then there's the Ducati reliability reputation...
Ninja 650 - probably a safe choice, but it's possibly a bit generic
One that I'll be really interested to see the reviews of is the new 2019 Honda CB650R - I love the styling, and of course it's a 4-cylinder...... heh heh. I could probably cope with not being able to completely flat-foot it once I've got a few more months under my belt.
I'll probably take another look at the new Street Twin and Scrambler, but I think I'd miss having fun at the top end for now.

We'll see!

The Honda is a good shout, it's still a very sporty bike and more than quick enough.

Modern Ducatis are fine. Issues with reliability b are a prevailing mindset from a couple of decades back.
