At Addison Tyres at the moment having the car winter tyres removed.

Find it really interesting looking at the bike tyres on the rack and comparing profiles.

The Michelin Road 5 has a much sharper profile than the previous version. It’s almost as pointed as the Supercorsas and RS10 Bridgestone which are road/track tyres.

Has anyone tried the RS10. Its almost a slick tyre.

Tyre profiles are one of the largest contributor to tyre behaviours. I personally like a tall but smooth radius profile on the front with a point steep rear tyre profile.

Interesting you say that about the PR5 though as they have always been a very flat profile.

Not personally tried the RS10 but a mate of mine did and it was a slick before 600miles - not recommended

The PR4 is quite flat. So are the 01s.

I like mine to be progressive. No sudden drop offs. The Z8s suit me, the 01s didn't.

The ones behind are VERY flat!! Must be for Suzuki and Harley riders

The Z8 also has a nice pointed profile but smooth with it.

I can also see why the M7RR is popular. The side profile, once the tyre is leaning, is almost flat giving loads of footprint on the road when leaning over.

Popular with Honda riders too so I am told unless you are Marc Marquez.

Tell Jason I need a new front Z8 for the Versys.

I would like an M7rr to give me more grip in the wet but I can't see him agreeing to fitting mixed tyres.

Check out this MAXXIS, strangest profile I've ever seen.

I wouldn't have thought he would have an issue with a similar tyre from the same manufacture...

Is that profile off centre or is it the photo?

Came away before I saw your message but he had both M7 and Z8 fronts on the shelf.

Now I'm going to go out on a limb here. I had a set of maxis diamonds on the RSV and they where nothing short of hideous, however the ktm 790 duke I had for the day had some sporty (can't remember which ones) maxis tyres and they worked well with the bike. Felt confident in the corners and had reasonable feedback.

Don't get me wrong, they where no M7's but they where decent enough.

Sorry...yes, I could have been clearer. I meant at the higher end of on-road and/or track tyres. Their regular road tyres are supposed to be good-ish and their off-road tyres are fine, by all accounts.

I forget which slick tyre I tried...Dunlop Sommit which had a profile like the one above...but once it was on the wheel it looked just like anything else.

They make great tubeless mountain bike tyres, used to run 3 inch wide ones at about 22-24 psi on my free ride bike, amazing grip.

A few years ago, when I went on a Chris Walker race school training day at Mallory, they used only Maxxis on their ZX6s
Apparently it was too hot that day though.
