London scooter thief jailed for 10 years

Post by Kwacky »

A moped rider who carried out six acid attacks on moped riders in just two hours has been jailed for over 10 years. Derryck John, 17, from Croydon, south London, was jailed at Wood Green Crown Court for the attacks to steal their vehicles.

He was just 16 when he threw a corrosive liquid at six moped riders across north and east London last July. One victim suffered life-changing injuries as a result of the multiple attacks.

He admitted six counts of throwing a corrosive liquid with intent to ‘disable, burn, maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm’, two counts of robbery and four counts of attempted robbery.

Father-of-one Jabed Hussain, 32, was the first person to be targeted at the Hackney Road junction with Queensbridge Road at about 10.30pm.

There are several counts of 3 various offences. He would have got a discount from his sentence for his early guilty plea.

he's eligible for parole after 30 months , he probably won't get it first time round but he will have the opportunity of a parole hearing every 6 months after the initial 30 months . I imagine he will serve about 4 years and then he will be out feeling hard done by with no job prospects which will lead to further offences and more jail , rinse and repeat till he either is locked up permanently or is killed either by other criminals or the police .

In this particular instance I’m not sure the Judicial system is fully reflecting the weight of the offenders actions.

Id rather of invoked medieval justice system in this instance. This guy has wanted to hurt people, 10 years isnt long enough and he prob wont even serve 10 year anyway. What ever happened to lashings.

Literally looked at the mugshot of an evil person. He isn't even the tip of the iceberg though, similar groups do the same for mobile phone jacking too. They're get 5-10 phones in an hour, £100 each and they've made £1000. Quick easy money and they don't care about who they hurt in the process

Each arrest and prosecution will cost us tens/hundreds of thousands. With the helicopter, damaged vehicles, all that manpower, then the legal system.
And after all that, IF the cps deems a prosecution worthwhile, the little scroats will get a £40 fine & 30 hrs of community service.

Perhaps we need to re-think this.?

Every prosecution costs money, regardless of the crime. It's what we pay our taxes for.

As much as I would love to put them into work camps it's not going to happen.

I don't think you can put a price on this sort of thing....whether from a philosophical point of view, or from a practical angle.
Yes, all these services cost $$$, but they were created to fill a need, not just for the sake of it.

Jack i thought the same about the Armed Forces. We sre low of man power in them so would help our security of our country and also teach them discipline which i guess their parents didnt do.

This is the first time for a long while I've seen my taxes put to good use.

I'd pay more taxes for all police cars to be fitted with bullbars with spikes on.

With our current government there's no chance of a powerful police force. Unfortunately, the expenditure will need to be significantly larger than it ever has been to get these scrotes slapped back in line. Cheapest solution would be to force then into the military for a minimum and lengthy period of time - the risk with that is, if the military don't break them and turn them into a half decent person they're going to come out with the same mentality but now highly trained in combat, firearms and incredibly fit; they'd be training a new breed of street criminal

Im not convinced that its cheapest, clothing, 3 meals a day, highly specific training, arms and ammunition etc. But would be a better environment than prison eg like minded people

Onto the other point you mention, i wouldnt say it would be a new breed as servicing in the military they would have to be elible would still have to be required, were not talkong murderers, rapists and kiddie fiddlers, we are talking thieves, scrapers (GBH) and alike. These guys would have to be screened to be fit for that sentence IMO. Many would serve and prob cause problems but a theive would break under a corpals hammerings of 5 mile runs at 3 AM, woken up by a bin, drilled everyday, 2 hour stag duty etc.

Do you really want to teach our criminals how to shoot people?
