Why do we ride?

Post by T.C. »

A good friend of mine Neil Law who is about to have his first book published and which relates to motorcycling has recently written a blog for our website on his thoughts about why we ride.

It is very engaging and quite thought provoking. I thought you might be interested if I shared it with you.

It's a question us bikers know without having to think about the answer and something non-bikers will never understand.

If you’re going to take the piss, at least string a sentence together properly! (lol)

I wish i could give a simple answer to why i ride a bike. I was influenced by Barry S, and silver dream machine. Never looked back and spent all my money on bikes.

Probably because my dad rode in the 60's and has told me so many stories about it, so when i had the money i had to give it a go, and the bug bit so i can't imagine not having a bike now.

Even casually looking at houses online the first thing i look at is the garage... Gotta have the toy safe while im at work.

I also have to agree with the thoughts in the link above, it doesn't leave room in my mind for negativity or worry, just the job at hand.

Why I Started and Why I Ride are very different for me.

I started when I had appreciation for bikes but no desire to own one. It was a tool that got me to and from school and to see friends (I lived very rural).

Why I ride now (well... 18 months ago) is because, while I'm riding, I think of nothing else. It's an escape. On track it's about bettering myself, lap on lap. I want to brake harder, brake later, brake longer, carry more speed, get more wheel spin more consistently... all of this is why I ride

earlier on i didn't think about it much, it was just fun - now years on riding is very much a two edged sword

on one hand the fun is still there but, on the other hand, i get irritated with cars not waiting and pulling out and this takes away from the pleasure.
