2018 Triumphs plus a Daytona 765?

New Speed Triple
1200cc Tiger
Speedmaster
Bobber black

Now the headline implies there's a 765 Daytona. But that's clearly bollocks because MCN say on their own site that there's no bike coming.

The interesting one there is the Tiger 1200 CC engine to take on the big all rounders like the KTM, BMW and the Ducatis - but for me that means there's that 1200cc lump to throw into a speed triple. Or am I hoping for too much?

They need to lump a 1200 into the speed otherwise I doubt it's going to sell.. it's heavy and underpowered compared to the competition.

The 765 RS is dangerously close to the power output of the very aged 1050 engine - didn't it originate in the Sprint GT?

No, the 1050 came out in 2006 or 2007 for the Speed Triple and the Sprint ST. The GT came along later.

The S3 doesn't feel heavy when you ride it and it's more than fast enough up to 120mph, which is about as fast as you can go if you want to stay on the thing.

I really can't see the point of a 150+mph naked.

I knew it was the Sprint something-or-other :D

It's all well and good telling people they don't want 160bhp+ but they won't believe you.. figures sell bikes. In the current crop of bikes, who will want 10+ year old technology when you can have a brand new design for around the same money, it's lighter, more efficient, more powerful... just more.

I believe you that it may be more than ample but that doesn't equate to sales

Is that why the MT-07 was the best selling naked? (giggle)

No I think that's more attributed to being a fresh look at mini-nakeds.. only my opinion of course.

I personally have no idea why anyone would by that bike - it's the most dreadful thing I've seen to date.

Lol.

The MT07? Fantastic bike. It doesnt look good but it's right up there with the Duke 690 single in terms of handling. All for £5500 new. Bargain. Test ride one.

Daytona 765 - i reckon it will happen but they will time it to co-incide with Moto2 in 2019, not next year.

In terms of 1200cc in the Speed? It's got to be. Given the price differential, there is very little reason to buy the Speed over the Street at the moment.

If they tune it purely for torque it will be a winner. Saying that i wouldn't have one. I have to hold on for dear life near top speed on the Street - the Speed wouldn't get there without you been blown off (ooh er) :D

I loved the flexibility of the speed triple. You can rag it like a 600 or ride the torque and surf around all day taking it (relatively) easy.

But I agree - that's got to be Triumphs thinking. The Moto 2 engines will kick out around 140bhp which means that the stock 765 engines we get have got a lot of power that could be tapped into. Am I right in thinking it's a locked ECU? No doubt Triumph don't want people having ear Speed Triple power. Even if you got 130 bhp at the rear wheel that's far too close to the bigger, heavier and more expensive Speed Triple.

160bhp and 100 ft/lb would be a beast.

Once the new speed comes out then maybe Triumph could do a fully tuned RS limited edition?

Yep - ECU is locked.

140 should be easy given the Euro4 exhaust on it and tuned for reliability and service intervals. I've seen a couple of people have put Powercommanders on 765's and it gains a few hp, but not that much. Race exhaust and ECU from moto2 anybody :)
