First a little history since i was regularly on here before, back when I had a yellow Daytona 650

That got me into trouble as being a sports bike it was only fun when it was screaming (speed and engine) so it got traded in, I still see it occasionally.

The replacement, a STR 8) Awesome little bike, like a 100bhp BMX at times and very reliable for the 2 years that I owned it. Never have got my knee down despite coming close hunting gixxers in the novice group at Cadwell, on touring tyres (Metzeler Z8) I passed those 2 and they were pissed about it, especially when they clocked the rubber.

Eventually I started to get uncomfortable on the long rides I was doing and had ideas of touring, so I bought the most unreliable bike that I have had (Multistrada 1200S touring with the skyhook suspension)... Didn't stop me playing with it and fitting an exhaust though...

In 8 months it was back to the dealer 6 times for warranty work and I always found it a bit too heavy/tall/cumbersome but on a long motorway slog it did 187miles before the fuel light came on meaning about 6 litres left in that 20L tank (shocked) The pilot road 4 front also wore really badly.

So after spanking a MT-10 on a test ride this happened..

First mod was naturally to let the crossplane motor sing the song of it's people but being skint a Delkevic was chosen.

I can't really capture the sound properly but out on the road I love it 8)

Next up was to do something about the wooden brake feel, no lack of power, but the feel was not brilliant and depended a lot on pad temperature.

These are VERY recommended by me (y)

And some GB racing engine protection and crash bungs, Givi sport screen and top box rack, I kept the box from the Multistrada to make a light touring set-up, handy for a trip to the Isle of Man, for example.

That looks like a really flexible setup now you've got the touring bits organised too. Great thread with your history too - nice to see a fellow D650 rider's progress through bikes :)

How do you rate the Vtrec levers as i dare say i'll want some for the new steed if it comes with the stock triumph silver ones...

Its really good, doesnt seem to affect the handling at all and the rack comes off with just 4 bolts and lock nuts.. The little tank bag is a permanent feature though, no storage space at all under the seat on this bike.

cool thread, and as Kwacky said the track pic is awesome!

Sorry to hear you had o many woes will the Multi, I love mine, and as you say it is tall and heavy but with a bit of counter steering I don't find it cumbersome. You didn't happen to tak e the Leo Vince zorst off it before you traded it did you? (wasntme)

MT10 looks like a hoot (y)

Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome bike when it wasn't playing up, sport mode with the rear preload wound up was amazing.

Sadly the bike had been custom mapped to the Leo so it had to stay on there.

Yup sure is, I've got a '11 with ohlins and fitted the ohlins semi active SCU, killed 90% of the squat at the rear and boy the thing can launch!

I kinda miss the Mutly, I called it a big daft Labrador, big, playful, quite fast and cornered quite well with a decent bark to it.


On to today, I had an after work tinker session and fitted the AIS blockoffs and LV exhaust but it was getting on before I finished so it hasn't been started yet.

I took a few pics along the way so here's that...

Big thanks to Richiemoto on the MT-10 forum for selling his AIS blockoff kit and ceramic coated De-cat to me for a great price, with the factory can on the end of it, it was too loud for him (y)

Stonsie, i tested the MT10 yesterday and i currently have a Mutley, how do they compare or differ, would you recommend the change?

It's a different bike in almost every way.

MT-10 Pro's
Faster
More comfortable for me
Lighter, more agile
More fun
The sound
Cruise Control
Yamaha reliability and service costs, a local independent just did the 12 month service and throttle balance for £110 with Motul 300V oil and a genuine Yam filter (They charge an extra £20 for that oil over the Motul 5000 semi synthetic).
Easier to push around


Multi Pro's
Long range thanks to a bigger fuel tank and better MPG
Storage under the rear seat
The Ducati magic, everyone fawns over them although not so much the Multi.
Panniers just clip on
The sound
Angled front tyre valve (fitted to the MT when I had the tyres changed)


It depends what you want from a bike. A big comfy mile muncher that can also be fun in the twistys is the Ducati.
A punchy fun bike that lives for harassing superbikes in twistys but can also munch miles in relative comfort with a smooth engine and Cruise, but has no built in storage and gets around 40mpg, the Yamaha nails it. I have a bolt on top box and tank bag to get around luggage issues.

SORRY! I totally missed this question, I really like them. They are very well made and the look and feel is great, easy to fit and adjust with very minimal play up and down.

I went for TUV approved levers as the MT-10 has 2 in 1 switches on both levers for the cruise control and the Chinese levers are hit and miss weather they work with these switches or not.
