apparently it took them 10 minutes to get through all the security and disappear, took the police 12 minutes to arrive, unlucky

Old Bill were probably waiting around the corner and only showed once the thieves had got away.

Assuming the 999 call was made the moment they started messing with the bike (and you know it wasn't)...a 12 minute Police response time is really not that bad.

The Police have lots of things to do....the thieves have nothing else to do...that's why they're thieves.

If the call made said "There is a bloke with a baseball bat smashing the skulls of a bunch of lads...." (the contents of call that would be made if it was my neighbours making it) I imagine the response would have been quicker.

Or maybe I'm too cynical as well.??

Being optimistic I would hope the cops had to stop at the doughnut shop on route if they got that call ;)

Threat to property vs. threat to life.

All joking aside could you get done for wasting Police time or threatening people with violence?

If you tell the police you've got a gun and you intend to use it I suspect they'll do you for threats to kill at worst but probably wasting police time and making false threats.

FYI if you were to inform the police that you have a gun & are going to use it to defend your property / deter felons, then they will subsequently take steps to have your firearms licence withdrawn. -I know that for a fact because it happened to an ex colleague of mine just a couple of years ago (not preventing the theft of a motorcycle from outside his house by a bunch of kids, but similar enough a scenario that it indicates their stance).

I'm sure there is an element of Government policy that likes us to be a bit fearful of living in our own neighbourhoods just so they can justify some of their ludicrous policy making.

A Birmingham MP has been attacked by a couple of bikers - no idea if the bikes were stolen by judging by their biking attire I doubt they're fully paid up IAM members

I think they actually create and perpetuate a lot of that fear themselves.

Outlaw encryption - terrorists well get us otherwise
Ban porn - or the country will be overrun with pedo's and child snatchers.

Apparently scooter/motorbike crime is the thing to do nowadays, all the kids are doing it! Watched a clip in FB about it, whether it's false or not it certainly doesn't feel it when you hear of the amount of crimes there are over it. Think I'd prefer these kids to do back to the 80's all jumped up on E's or speed at the illegal raves in abandoned warehouses
