Rolled the bike out from under the cover for a quick check.

Fired on the button, everything working, and tyre pressures spot on to the exact psi. Its an omen that tomorrow is going to be a good day out. Quick spray of chain lube is all that was needed.

Quick stop for fuel tomorrow and ready for stow.

Yesterday went to the 675.cc fest in Banbury. Total mileage 367. Fantastic roads. However i spotted that my rear caliper is leaking from the bleed nipple. Dont think ive messed about with that since bleeding it a while back.

So looked it up, like you do, seen horror stories of having to get a new caliper as the thread is now f'ed or the simpler, more cheapest problem could be the thread on the bleed nipple!

When i got back home i realised the rear break was piping hot, fronts were fine and now are pretty strong again...i must of done something to the rear...what the f... have i done!!

Anyone had anything similar and if so what can you do about it?

Sounds like your pads are dragging. Was the disc hot as well?

Was the nipple loose? Did you try nipping it up gently?

Took the ktm for a quick blast to stow born breakfast. To the long way back to explore some different roads.

Tested the quick shifter now its been disabled on down shift. A couple of tweaks and its all good. Now just need to program my brain to keep the throttle open on up shifts.

The nipple was in and it cant be tightened up anymore without being over tightened! Unsure if its the thread on the nipple

Check your rear brake lever first of all, it might need adjusting.

Then take the pads out and clean the pistons before pushing them right back.

Start from there.

The weep sounded like a slightly loose nipple but if it's tight I would put that on the back burner for know as unlikely to be the thread if it's tight.

Check what Kwacky has suggested. The hot caliper sounds like dragging pads which could be lever stuck on ever so slightly or a pad dragging due to a seized piston.

There the obvious points but without seeing it hard to be precise.

Just work logically going through a fault finding process.

Check the piston are free to move (all of them) and the lever operates freely and returns to the rest postion. Once you have proven or dismissed those points report back and we can try something else.

Good luck.

What Kwacky and Blade said, but if all else fails check the level in the reservoir isn’t too high - I’ve known there be too little air gap in the reservoir, then when it all gets warm the fluid expands, there’s nowhere for it to go, so the piston has to move and apply the brake.

Fwiw my money would be on adjustment.

Thanks guys. But problem is i bleed the brakes months ago and then jist taken out the pads and cleaned everything up a couple days ago. And piston is prefect, moves freely enough and to be fair nice and clean!

Ill redo it and see whats happening. Havent checked the fluid, its hard to do that as cant see the level.

Quick question - if i was to take the bleed nipple off is this easy to just unscrew and it comes right out? Is there an o-ring as a seal there that would need to be replaced?

Unsure how to adjust the rear pedal to be honest, any ideas how?

Rossgo, do you want to start a new thread? I'm worried that replies to your question will get lost in what tends to be a busy thread.

Including this one.:
When you serviced the rear caliper, & found the piston was moving freely, did you also check that the caliper was also moving freely on its slider.?
(& if so, my copperslip point from my last post would be even more applicable because copperslip on that really can cause trouble for the reason mentioned).

I'll have to do it tonight. I've got an old version of internet explorer which means I've not the mod tools. If you start a new thread I can add the posts to it later on.

Rossgo very hard for you to describe the fault and us to recommend actions over the internet, although obviously we will gladly do all to assist.

Can I suggest you pop to a local service centre and ask for 5 minutes with a Technician. People are normally glad to help and throw him a few quid for a pint and everyone is happy.

The Technician will be able to identify the root course in 2 minutes and then you can do the work yourself but least you know what to do.

Alternatively ask for a quote to repair. They will have to diaganois it to offer a quote and then again you do the work yourself.

Hope you get it sorted and glad to help in anyway possible.
