Bassetts Pole

Post by Kwacky »

I see there was as crash there last night. A car driver decided to do a u-turn on a bike, taking out the rider and the pillion. I don't know the extent of the injuries but both were taken to hospital. The female pillion was kept on a spinal board but the rider was said to be ok.

This meet is one I've avoided for a while. You get large numbers of bikes, which is great, but you also get cars, quads and scooters. The Quads love to show off and the cagers try and race some of the bikes.

Last time there was a crash here the police clamped down on it. I can see that happening again.

I've never really enjoyed bike meets. Always attracts idiots tbh. It's great at cafés etc when there are 40 or 50 bikes having their bacon sandwiches and you can have a look around but other than that it's a recipe for disaster IMO.

I'm not a great one for bike meets to be honest. I'm not into custom bikes, although there are usually some nice examples. The police are never far away and they can be a good hunting ground for bike theives to see what's available in the local area.

Bassetts Pole just got too popular for its own good some years back.

To be honest, generally i would rather be riding the bike than looking at some one elses.

I pass the main routes to it, always police around on the way home. There was a smash on the A5 actually last night in Tamworth, Blocked both the Eastbound lanes. Looked like cars though from what I could see as I headed the oterh way.

I used to attend the common meets in Liverpool years back but they got steadily more out of control until a guy on an R1 at top of 2nd gear with no helmet and wearing shorts hit a small motocross bike with two young lads on it (very young). Explosion of bike parts and flying bodies. I never went back after that.

With regard to bike meets, theres a new one opened up on the Bridgenorth Rd at the Pavillions on a Wednesday.

I used to go to a few meets when I first started riding, one of them being the Lord Darby just outside Hook. I was a really popular meet that basically kept the pub alive.

Unfortunately the loon element kicked in and there where wheelie races and burnouts going on, the obvious happened and the old bill suddenly turned up in force which killed the event. Since then I've had no real inclination to go to evening meets, I do like the bigger and properly organised events though.
