She's dead!

Post by Monty »

Catastrophic gear box failure!

To be fair, she's had a hard life (in a 7 year abusive relationship) and owes me nothing.

It's a sad day though ;(

That's really sad, Monty.

But i guess nothing last forever.

New bike time? I'm sure Cornish would let you have that lovely 848 at mate's rates. :)

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!! Not the incredible 650? The unbreakable Triumph? The last remaining reason to think that Triumph made good bikes? Noooooo!!!

Seriously gutted for you though mate. What bike next? A dirty old track whore? Or an elegant lady 848 styleey?

I'm thinking 636 but the bank manager has suggested a C90.

Either way it won't be this year!

Well, it had one last good thrash across the peaks ands I'm glad I was there to trail in your oil slick.

Have you thought about getting a re-con engine & gearbox? You've spent so much time (and I suspect money) getting it right. I've had a few minor parts for my Street Triple from these guys.

This might be an option, with 0% finance

Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! It can't be true. I nees to hear that F1 style sounding exhaust shreaking around Derbyshire for ever.

Is a secondhand gearbox or a rebuild not a possible option.

Yep, a recon engine for the 650 is very rare and costs around a grand! Spoke to Sandy this morning, he's done one in the last 10 years. There's one on eBay that's not reconditioned at the moment for 400 quid with 34K on it but you just don't know what you're buying.

I could get new engine casings from triumph, but by the time you add it all up it's well over a grand. It's 300 quids worth of gaskets alone!

It's time for change! (and 10,000 stupid messages on eBay when I part the bits out)

Yes but the last few years I've spent more time fixing it than riding it. Nothing major until now, but if I fix this there will be something else around the corner. She's getting on for a decade old and had a very hard life.

Fair do's. The king is dead, long live the king. I've forgot her already let's focus on the new Monty Machine (raaar)

If you fancy a 636 I believe the 0% offer is for 3 years and sanctioned by Kawasaki uk as a dealer wide offer so good chance to play one dealer off against the next and rape them for the best price.

As a suggestion don't over look a brand new 2013 636 as no major changes and dealers will most likely do a better deal.

Only 80 miles on the clock. No harm in making a mega cheeky offer and see if they bite

Even on a loan could work out cheaper than the 0% finance.

Just nipped down to the garage at lunch to have a look and the crank cases are junked. The sprocket bearing was fine but actually moving around in the case which was unsealing the oil seal. You can actually see marks on the outer of the bearing were it has been hammering into the case. Mechanic says he's never seen that before. Fair bit of wear on the the gears as well, and the generator I fitted last year is already on the way out!

Good news is the garage are only charging me 100 quid for stripping the bike down and boxing up all the parts.

If you sell the parts to Spudda piece by piece, you might have a enough for a brand new bike by December. :D

Seriously though, Monty, hope it all works out for you.

I know how sick i felt when my Tuono blew up. Really shitty feeling.

Monty maybe sell it as a project.

When I wrote of my 954 I got very good money for it as an accident repair. In fact I was genuinely surprised how much it went for. Might be worth a cheap advert to see if some interest. Beats the hassle of parting out and answering a 1000 silly question as you pointed out earlier.
